Check your rectifier has not failed. If it has replace with a new finned type & dont put a new battery on until you replace it as it will fry the next battery

If you can get the bike started again check the voltage out-put at the battery terminals with a multi-meter, it should read between 13.5 and 15.5 volts.

The early bikes had a non finned rectifier fitted and were prone to failure. It's located in behind the seat plastics on the right hand side (rear brake pedal side).

It could be a dead short in the charging system resulting in a drain down of the battery over night.

So what's the score now, battery fully charged but bike won't start?

You might want to check the generator side of things on the R/R as well. See the Charging System Diagnosis Checks in my signature.
