Good, good, good.... good vibrations

Post by Girlie_Biker »

Ok folks,

only had my Storm less than a week, I bought it as I needed something that wanted to go round corners to improve my riding unlike my Zed which I have to force round corners.

I've never had or ridden a VTwin before but I do like to ride my bikes in low gear high in the rev ranges...

Only trouble is once I get the Storm over 80mph the vibrations thru the handlebars are so much I'm forced to either gear up or slow down as quite frankly it tickles too much!

Do I just buy thicker gloves :?:

Have you tried sitting on the bars at that speed?

I believe vibrations and women = :P

Predictable Cupasoup, predictable

I know what you mean though about gear selection. I've started trying to keep at about 4500-5000 rpm especially around town (1st/2nd gear) as any less and its not smooth. I know there is a bit more 'vibration' and engine noise, but I figure the sound of the cans outweighs that :D :D

What gear are you in or rpms at 80mph?

Yep! It's a vibey ride, just wait till you get to 120
No seriously, you'll get used it, thicker gloves might help but your fingies will still go numb on a longer trip .

well, I used to ride fours and V-twins, so something to get used to is that you actually do not need to go inline-4 route with keeping needle up in revs to get torque. Storm is exceptionally strong in midrange, so do not judge right RPMs by sound :) Firs month you keep wondering why Storm's engine sounds like it's hardly rotating while speedo shows 100+ mph :)

What is interesting as well - inline-4 vibrate a loads (unless it is something like CB1300), but frequency is very high. What I found is that because V2 vibrate with bigger amplitude and much lower frequency when hands go numb it's enough to take hand off steering for just a moment and numbness go. While with inline-4 when you get numb hand it's properly numb - might be like that for hours after you stopped...
Mind, that was on our trips in France, when we gave engines a good kicking for long time ;)
I actually do not find Storm annoyingly vibey....good vibrations! ;)

Try not putting all your weight on the bars. Just using your fingers from the knuckles down to your finger tips hooked over the grips is something to get used to.(keep your wrists below knuckle height) This will make you use your stomach muscles without you even realising it and before long, longavate your staminah. Greetings and good luck from down under. 8)

Best cure has to be a good massage

Otherwise just as d&s says. Grip the tank with your knees and relax your shoulders. Or just think of England.

Hiya Girlie Biker, got to agree with grinner I grip the tank with my knees and thighs the good thing about a VTR is the nice slim tank.
Relax your upperbody and try not to put any weight on no the bars at all, It may be hard work at first but you will end up with lovely shapely legs

Thanks guys for the (mostly!) useful advice.

Yes I think part of it might be leaning too heavily on my hands as I'm still adjusting to the new position and sitting a bit stiffly as its my new baby.

I think I'll have to get used to keeping the revs a wee bit lower as well as said above that lovely torque is there even at very low revs.

More practice required either way!

As anyone fitted mirror extenders? are they worth it? I can only find them at £25 from a place in germany....

I personally think mirror extenders do help quite a lot, I would not be without mine. However you being a female will have narrower shoulders than most men, so the rear view may not be so restricted as it is for us males. Some people fit R1 mirrors (Yamaha) I tried these but didn't really get on with them myself,

I have mirror extenders. But as nothing would make me to pay 25 quid for those bits of plastic I made them myself.
Cost? hmmm....5-6 Euro.
I bought kit for fitting laminate floors in DYI supermarket - about 4 Euro.
It consist of set of plastic bits, one of which is about 25 mm thick plate of black plastic.
Then a bit of black corner isolation tape and bolt extenders.

And it does look way better than aftermarket ones.
Took about 2 hours to make with not much efforts.

not meaning to be sexist but girls do the vibrations make you horny?
reason I ask is I had a girlfreind long time ago who had a pre-unit bonnie and it had a stunning effect on her..........unfornunetly I got more than just a numb finger from the vibes on the tank, no amount of fooling around would get the blood flowing into the extemities.
Just wondered how it is for you?
it may be clever, but its not big.
