Ohlins are nice but very expensive. You could go the Hyperpro route I believe you can get the whole lot for around £200. You will need to get the rear shock rebuilt to have the progressive spring fitted.
If shipping is not a killer on the deal,, and F4i shock re-valved, sprung for your weight and a new clevis installed by Daugherty Motorsports http://www.daughertymotorsports.com/vtr ... 1000f.html in the US is an option.

Any decent aftermarket shock will be an improvement, budget version is Hagon, also nitron do a basic shock. the fully adjustable shocks if set up for you will all be very good, just take your pick, WP, Ohlins, Penske, Wilbers, Nitron etc etc.
I have a Penske on my current bike, My old one had an Ohlins.

Save your money on the re-valve and taper the rebound rod and put a 1mm relief hole between the two valves in the cartridge body. http://www.ablett.jp/bikes/vtr/vtr_sus.htm
