Clutch

Post by Redthunder »

Looks like when I have finished painting I have some mechanical work to do before the storm comes out to play!

Has anyone had the following?

I decided to clean the drive chain, including front sprocket, so unbolted the clutch slave, and sprocket cover.
Pushed slave piston back in, fitted it all up but now clutch won't work.
Tried bleeding and the old tiewrap the lever to the bars overnight trick but to no avail!

I suspect it has disturbed master cylinder somehow so will look to rebuild that then work from there..

Keep searching, as this is common. Takes a lot of bleeding to get the action back again.
Two bikes, still only four cylinders!

Reverse bleed it, i.e. push the new fluid in from the bleed nipple with a syringe, that way you force the air up through the system.

Will help if you drain all the fluid out first.

Did mine like this when I put a new clutch line on didn't take more than 10 mins or so...

Next time cable tie the clutch lever back before removing the sprocket cover and you wont have to bleed the clutch afterwards.

I presume you did not remove the long push rod during the clean as this must go back in the same way.

The annoying thing is that I did not disturb the hydraulics themselves!

The lever constantly pushes on the piston so when you remove the sprocket cover the piston will slowly extend out letting air in .
This is why its best to remove the lever before proceeding to remove the sprocket cover .
