You'll never guess what's happened :D
Re: You'll never guess what's happened :D
try and move the CCT by turning eiter of the nuts on the end sticking out to the left on your photo. the smaller sized one should be pinned to the main shank, so I dont understand what the big one is for, but they should both be locked together.
put a felt pen mark on the thread where it enters the body so you can see were you started and if it moves easyly then that is your problem, if it it only moved under gorrila force, then put it back to the mark

Pop round later youth I've got the lube
Re: You'll never guess what's happened :D
Now I don't like the sound of that. I'm still not convinced it's the CCT's but they are still worth checking. How about the starter motor, is this spinning over OK.I tried turning it back on to check just now and there was a really choppy sound from the engine block
Unfortunately all we can do here is a take a wild guess without hearing it.
I think you will find that end nut is not spot welded in place like some and the smaller nut is supposes to be that end and just locks off the end nut. A bit like the Kreigers as I discovered working on Duffy's bike recently.the smaller sized one should be pinned to the main shank, so I don't understand what the big one is for

Starter motor is as good as ever (not very). It's definitely something from the engine block, however I decided the second it started turning over that it was a very bad noise and turned it off asap. I don't want to turn it on again, not a nice noisecybercarl wrote:Now I don't like the sound of that. I'm still not convinced it's the CCT's but they are still worth checking. Nah. Having to get the bus home, my arsehole brother is too busy in bed no doubt. All he ever does is go to work, then lie in bed until his next bloody shift. Wouldn't mind so much if he worked more than 6 hours at a time

Have you checked the oil level?
Put in a little bit more oil see if the noise goes away,
is it there from start up or just when bikes warm? Could it be water pump?
Could it be Valve Shims needing doing? this can make a funny noise on an inline 4 when they are out of tolerance or close to service limit

Had a major service 1000 miles ago. Oil is still high, noise is instant when 5he engine turns over and the valves didn't need doing last time... with 20k miles since it was last doneseb421 wrote:Have you checked the oil level?

Remember when I was an apprentice on crap wages. Lived 17 miles from work and bus was slow/expensive/too early. Bike breakdowns were a nightmare. Hope it's an easy fix for you virt,
