Rear end!!

So got home ok last night but the squeak/creek was really noticeable

Thanks everyone for your quick responses and useful info. I am back on the wife's wee r6 for the time being, so at least I have a set of wheels although a bit cramped for my 6'5ft bean pole frame

I'm thinking I might get a whole rear end together for a swop and prepare the new one as the thread suggested. Reason for doing it that way is as I pull the bike apart everything will be fresh in my memory for where it all goes back . I also want to powder coat the swing arm and linkage and will probably do the sub frame at the same time. .I want to fix a bleed nipple in place to, so future lubing is no longer a problem

So will be scanning eBay for the required bits, if anyone has any rear end bits they would like to part with please let me know.

As I am a complete nubbie to this what exactly are the main bits I need? I will most like replace swing arm bearing to as have no idea what they are like so may as well replace them as I go.

These should help. If you order from dave silvers they use the same pic so you can order from the numbers shown.



17 & 2x 18 are the bearings 1x needle 2x roller.

There is a pic of the shock & linkages but I'm buggered if I can get it to load for some unbeknownst reason, well me being a computer numptie is one...

There is a link somewhere to the whole fiche exploded pics again lost it...

Someone will be along shortly to show you the way & advise against buying bearings from silvers as they can be sourced elsewhere cheaper.

Full blow up of the Shock lickages on the 2nd page 3rd post down...

In the Triangle bracket bearings are...20 x2.

Dog leg ...18 + 20 x2.

Shock lower 19.

You will also need all the dust seals & quite possibly the thrust spacers as well. Unfortunately you wont no until you take it all apart & inspect it.

It seems that swingarm a are in quite abundance but the suspension linkages aren't so easy to find . I'm probably gonna end up getting a abba stand as it will make life a lot easier as I don't have anywhere to 'hang' the rear end from, although wicky's novel idea is a possibility

Probably not gonna do this but if I was to brace the swingarm with a brace from a fireblade would the rear brake calipers still for or is there some mods to do to get it all together?

For bracing, it's the stock caliper used, but you need to use the caliper bracket from the CBR, as it's angled a little different to make the caliper sit over the brace...

I struggled to find it, I had to reconnect my old hard drive as it was I thought it would be easier to find there than on the ext. back up H/D.

Sadly there's one bearing that you can't fit a grease nipple to, as it's a shielded roller bearing, and the grease can't get through the shield.
Still worth doing the ones you can, though.

And fitting a shock sock- if that's what the heat form the rear downpipe does to a big chunky linkage, it doesn't take much imagination to see what effect it'll have on the shock oil and damping....

Or ex wrapping, of course...
