Abba stand question.

Post by VTRPiG »

Would an abba stand be ok to use for me to take the whole rear end of the bike off? As you know I'm wanting to strip it all and powder coat it while I have it all apart. Reading the info about the abba stand it mentions that it uses the swingarm pivot points to mount the bike, is that the case? If so I'm guessing its not what I need to so the job :( :biggrin

with some simple mods you can mount the ABBA stand to the rear engine mount. I posted some pictures on that and if I find time I will have a search alter and post up a link.

Abba stand & a bottle jack are the only 2 bits of kit you will ever need. Paddock stands are ok but can be unreliable if accidentally knocked & they also take up alot of room

bottle jack
I use a few bricks under the sump, I find them a bit more sturdy. The only downside is that it takes one person to see saw the bike back and another to slide the bricks underneath.

The biggest pain for me with a rear paddock stand apart from not being able to remove the swingarm, is taking the wheel on or off as I like to sit on the ground where the paddock handle would be. I then use my knees to help hold the wheel into position while sliding the spindle through.

Guys thank you again for your help, AMCQ46 cheers for the info and cyber carol  cheers for the pictures. The stand arrived today and got it all set up and bolted together as you have done it. Unfortunately had to leave for work so won't be till tomorrow morning that I get it off the paddock stand once I have wedges a couple of bit of wood under the abba stand :D

Woohoo! The fun is about to begin!!! 8O :?

Oink Oink or is that Bacon butty

If you wanted to take it a step further, put some bricks under the sump and you can remove the complete front end, remove Abba stand and then the frame and your left with an engine sitting on bricks. :biggrin
