Speedo

Post by oorwullie43 »

Hi all, new here so go easy on me!! Just got a 98 VTR and all is going well, but my speedo is reading far too fast!
The bike came from the I.O.M. So is in MPH. Any advise would be gratefully received.

cheers Wullie

Are you sure it's reading too fast? Are you comparing it against a friends' speedo riding at x mph or using a sat nav?

Considering the bike I ride mostly is a naked, the VTR always feels like it's doing 20mph whenever I ride it (butt out Lloydie ) even though the speedo may be saying 70 or 100

Check the sprockets... Most likely it has been re-geared, which is the reason for the speedo reading to high... Can either swap the gearing back to stock, or get a speedo healer or similar to make it show the correct speed...

Is your bike's speedo standard?- just asking as there was an old racing VTR for sale from the IOM a while back.

Have you pics of your Storm beasty?

Have pic but haven't managed to get them off my mobile yet. The clocks came off another VTR that the guy that had it broke. I,v got the rest of it in my garage. So I think they must be standed.

Then, it's most likely a broken sensor... But it can be that you have a speedo healer hidden somewhere, set to something very odd... I have seen it happen...

What? Why haven't you done that? It's a lot faster that way... Says the guy why can remember the visual stuff like a manual clear as a bell (eidetic memory) , but forgets to lock the bloody door half the time!

That's an age thing. Or one goes off down the road and thinks "did I lock the door or did I remember to do........." and start questioning yourself then go back to double check.

I have excellent long term memory but my short term is bad.
