help wanted in birmingham

Post by lingy67 »

hi all
I have a 1998 storm with about 18000 on the clock
got the bike in may this year it is my first v twin
anyway always seems to run ok till I went out for a blast with 2 mates
did about 60 miles got it upto 130 ish and it ran good
but when I got it out for work the next day it didn't feel wright
it just didn't seem to run as nice as it did
have used it today and it seems to be worse
don't know if its just me or there is something wrong with the bike
I am used to 4 pot bikes and don't really know what it should run like
if there is anyone in Birmingham that would take my bike out and see if there is something wrong then I would be very greatfull
thanks all
rich

hard to explain really
it feels like its choked up
almost like its in to higher gear all the time
when you twist the throttle it goes like f***
there don't seem to be a problem there
it starts first time every time
like ive said its my first v twin so maybe that's how its supposed to be and its not just me being paraniod
just wanted to make sure its ok if not then get it sorted :?

Rich, good to meet you.
Just for your records the jets in your bike were

Rear
Pilot Kehlin 48s
Main Kehlin 178
Air screw 1.8 turns

Front
Pilot Kehlin 48s
Main Kehlin 175
Air screw 2 turns

Carl will advise if these are stock, but I think they are.

See what it runs like when you put the stock filter in as I think that K&N type filter will be making it too lean especially through the mid range

Yep stock jetting . So put a standard air filter back in and it will run lots better .
The mixtures need swapping over
1.8 front
2 rear

Cheers lloydie, the bike runs well just feels like there is a soft power dip from 3k to 5k, it hasn't got enough go to even think about lifting the front wheel with clutching 2nd, but after 6k it flys nicely to the redline.
