overflow
overflow
So today after balancing my carbs and putting all stuff back on bike I noticed petrol coming out on one of the overflow hoses took every thing off to check for loose hoses but all is tight and working well
I'm a bit confused to why its done it but I'm sure smbdy will enlighten me

Re: overflow
Which hoses are you referring too
If you mean the ones that sit in between the two carbs then you may have a problem with the float or float valve so fuel wont shut off and the float chamber will keep filling up. Any excess fuel will drain out these hoses. You also have a drain hole on the bottom of the petcock in case the diaphragm inside fails. The only other drain hose is the overflow for the fuel tank that connects to the bottom of the tank.

Re: overflow
It was the overflow between the carbs but it was my mistake for tilting carbs and fuel went up and after installing tank back on the carb refueled and overflowed
But found another petrol leak...under the tank where the fuel gauge is ...is there a seal located somewhere that I must have disturbed?

Re: overflow
That would do it.but it was my mistake for tilting carbs

I take it your referring to the fuel sender unit/float. Yes there should be a rubber O ring sealing that but you wont have disturbed that unless you took took it off. You could get away with using some petrol/chemical resistant silicone to seal any leaks around it as a bit of a bodge. Otherwise you will have to remove and drain the tank, turn it upside down and remove the 4 bolts that holds the sender unit in place to inspect and replace if necessary the O ring.under the tank where the fuel gauge is

Re: overflow
Do you mean exhaust cans or the header pipes themselves. If you mean the complete exhaust system including headers then you could be opening a can of worms thee. Make sure the studs don't snap. It a good idea to give them a few days soaking in some WD40 or similar penetrative lubricant Oor err.

Re: overflow
They have been soaking for past 2 days and yes all exhaust is coming off need to clean and repack end cans

Re: overflow
Take care that the fronts dont snap off. it may be wise to use a nut splitter on the front bolts then you can run a die down the studs to clean them up and fit new stainless nuts. much less hassle than having to drill the head to remove old studs

Re: overflow
they all came off without much drama ...
but i did open a can of worms...as the downpipes have tiny little cracks that will need welding...
as for repacking the cans dont know if i should bother or just replace them (remus grand prix )
one more thing how fast do your engines warm up ? and how hot do they get as mine is good to fry eggs on after 3 minutes
and even my end cans get warmish...never had that happen before

Re: overflow
3 minutes is a bit quick maybe your running a little lean, but they soon warm up if you have a fairing lower on and are sitting in traffic in the middle of a hot day. The fan should kick in approx just past the halfway mark on the analogue dash gauge. When was the coolant level last checked, I would start there.

Re: overflow
I will do an engine flush to replace all coolant and also a full service
but if the engine flush won't cure the overheating what else could it be? A blocked pipe or just crap un the cooling system?

Re: overflow
Is it literally overheating or just getting hot. There's various things that could cause it depending on if it's running hot or overheating.
