I changed the footrests and I was amazed how easy it was

Post by suburban guerrlla »

I decided to put the standard footrests back on my bike and realised you have to take the swing arm spindle out....
A front paddock stand and a rear paddock stand and a jack under the engine. Jack until you can just feel a bit of resistance. That way the bike doesn't cave in when you take the spindle out. Tap tap the spindle comes out. Bit of twisting with the sharp end of a crow bar wedged in around the front of the swing arm to line the holes up and tap tap spindle goes back in.

I thought it would be a real pain. Surprisingly easy.

Tip for future reference. Use the rear wheel spindle to knock the swigarm spindle out which then replaces the swingarm spindle, holes still aligned and swingarm still in place. Put the right hand rearset through the swingarm spindle and tap back through knocking out wheel spindle, then put the left rear set on.

Yes, and to stop the rear wheel falling out while the rear wheel spindle is being used, try popping the swing arm spindle..... Oh.........
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

 Yeh you wouldn't be able use the rear paddock stand. It's so much easier with an Abba stand mounted off the engine mounts.

Yes I searched my garage for spindles but the only thing I could find we're sv650 engine mounting bolts which were not long enough.
