vtr short lived

Hello all - vtr newbie here.
Picked up the bike about a month ago - loved it! First V2 - you know the feeling yourself.
Sunny day last Saturday - couple of hours off work - out for a bit of a blast in the country.
Long story short - ran out of road - my lovely firestorm smashed in a ditch
Its a '98. Might have a line on replacement parts and need to know if forks from '02 will bolt on and fairing bits from '02 as well.

Sorry to hear that mate, glad you're ok. I'm a Firestorm newbie but I believe those parts are ok. Different clocks/fuel tank but forks and fairings interchangeable but someone who knows more will be along soon

As far as I'm aware forks & fairings are interchangeable between all years.

The later models the tank is bigger, the clocks are different so those bits aren't a straight swap.

Someone will be along shortly to advise you of the upgrade options...

What an intro Yes you can use the later forks and fairing if you want as they are interchangeable. I'm not entirely sure what the upgrade was with the later model forks apart from the anodised Gold caps. They may have upgraded the spring weight slightly or made some subtle changes to the internal valving but nothing obvious internally. Length, diameter etc etc is all exactly the same.

As far as anyone could find when both Jamie D and hawkrider, which both are suspension guys, examined them side by side on the US forum, there really was no discernible difference, so the consensus is probably just different spring weight...

Sorry to hear of your misfortune. The internals of all VTR 1000f OEM Standard forks are identical.There was no factory internal upgrade as happened between the VTR-SP1 and VTR-SP2 which only solved one of several issues with these forks an created another one! I am glad you are ok and in one piece .. there have been tragic
accidents with motorcycles and you have survived this one ..
we all have friends we know who have had bad suffering etc ... it just goes to
show the power and riderbility of the Honda Firestorm and the
acclaimed joy of putting the big V twin through its paces ... good luck

Thank you for the confirmation Roger. That's good to know for future reference So the only change was the Anodised Gold caps then. What a great bit of marketing that was by Honda. What is it they say in the sales leaflet "Modified front fork settings" Marketing!!!!!!
