Front Wheel Removal

Post by scouse645 »

Hi, this has probably been discussed before but i can't find it at the moment, what is the best way to remove the front wheel without a stand? i do have a trolley jack if that's useful.

Lay it on its side .

Or use a rear stand and a jack under the sump

Thanks lloydie, are you always on holiday? the stand and jack method sounds best for me, it won't topple over though will it? can't ride it at the moment as the mot has run out, forgot about it

it shouldn't if you make sure it's on flat ground...i use a piece of wood cut to width of the sump on top of my jack so it has more surface to balance on...

if you look through this or the knowledge base section you'll find some drawings of a homemade abba stand that someone posted...

Ideally get a front stand to do it with minimum fuss in five mintues

Or alternatively secure the rear with a paddock stand (tie is on) and use a jack to inch up the bike (remember to use a bit of wood to protect the sump) - hoist the front up from roof joists / step ladder and secure.

It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

Thanks all for the help, i did the job easily in the end by following advice on this forum and the service manual, just put a wooden block under the sump and slowly jacked it up and out came the wheel, i did raise a sweat but not sure if that was hard work or crapping myself
