The first list should be m6 not m5

Re: Engine cover bolt sizes and others
This is how I fooked up
First measurement was taken on the shaft
At a little over 5mm (m5)
Where I should of measured it
On the thread it's self
Here is the stainless bolts
Just under 5mm (m5)
But on the thread
It's smaller so no good .
I've sent the seller an email to swap the kit for m6 let's see what happens .
Sorry for any inconvenience guys
I'm going to go all through the measurements iv taken and amend the list .

Re: Engine cover bolt sizes and others
Wondered why the M5 washers I ordered didn't fit. Thought I had rooked up! M6 now ordered!
Re: Engine cover bolt sizes and others
Hopefully mine haven't been dispatched yet or can exchange if they have. Having replaced most of my standard ones with M6 from an SZR kit I did wonder at M5 but didn't question it to avoid looking daftDuffy1964 wrote:No worries Lloydie, It was still a great idea, and I got mine as per ebay listing so should be able to exchange, they deliver really fast too
I'm so unlucky that if there is such a thing as re-incarnation I'll come back as me!

Re: Engine cover bolt sizes and others
Measuring bolts can be a right pain. Some companies will take the measurement from the top of the head and some just the thread length and then there measuring the pitch. Last time I measured some bolts I started considering buying a proper tool for the job. Pro bolt make a nice one but the sizes are limited.
Good thread Lloyd.

Re: Engine cover bolt sizes and others
Get yourself a good thread gauge to start so you know if the bolts are metric standard or metric fine pitch for starters.cybercarl wrote:Measuring bolts can be a right pain. Good thread Lloyd........albeit the wrong one

Bolts are normally always measured from under the head ie: just the shank so for example an M8 x 16 is 8mm thread diameter with a length of 16mm PLUS the head. The only usual exception to this rule is with countersunk bolts when the OVERALL length is measured.
One last point, a BOLT is normally only part way threaded with a bare shank area whereas a SET BOLT is threaded all the way along its shank.
Here endeth todays lesson
Re: Engine cover bolt sizes and others
Got one I think they differ from seller to seller. Some will take the measurement from the top of the cap and some just the thread length. It just seems to confuse things. It makes life so much easier when sellers give a diagram of where exactly they are measuring from.Get yourself a good thread gauge to start so you know if the bolts are metric standard or metric fine pitch for starters.
