Cutting link pipes

Cutting link pipes

Anyone ever done it . Think I'd like to take an inch or maybe even 2 of mine.....The silencers are quite long and I think it would look better. Grinder, or would my ' one saw cuts everything ' piece of crap chopsaw be up to it, not sure how tough the link pipes are .

If you have straight sections at the can end then why not?
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

it would look better if you lobbed off a couple of inches, are you keeping the big banana then?
personally i'd use an angle grinder, but only because I have nothing else to do the job... :wink:

I used a Dremmel on my link pipes. I found the angle grinder burnt the surrounding edges of the cut. Mind you that was on Titanium. Lovely white sparks a bit like magnesium.

I have a grinder, but if I could use the choppy it could give a perfect straight cut, so its preferable. Listed it for 30 days and it didnt sell so looks like its staying, although if the cash were waved under my nose i'd have to think hard about it. Dont really want it to go though, so quite glad i got no sensible offers.

I didn't have use of a "choppy"?? when I cut mine so I just marked them off on the bike to get the right lengths with a bit a felt tip pen and then stuck a piece of gaffer tape around the pipe.
Took the link pipe off the bike and used a dremel. You can get quite a good clean cut when working on a bench, it just takes a little longer. :cool2

The only reason not to shorten the link pipes I can think of, is that Scorpion apparently design their cans to work with a standard set up. So by shortening the exhaust length you will be changing the fueling. Unless of course you are planning on rejetting the carbs and/or changing the air filter then getting it set up properly on a dyno, in which case forget what I have just said :wink:

Also check the clearance between the can and the swing arm at the length you want them as they may touch .

I'm guessing by that statement you think they're Scorpions, but they are in fact Motad Venom pipes, and they came on the bike. Bike seems to run fine with them, ( backside dyno anyway ), and I know any adjustments could change things. Tbh though, If it were to bugger up the way it ran, I'd just fit a dybojet kit, and if that wasnt enough then get some other cans when funds allow. I think spending loads on dyno time with these bikes is like setting fire to the cash. From experience a decent branded can and stage 1 dj kit and theyre as good as there.
As for the clearance issue Lloydie, good shout, but they are fairly upswept compared to standard, so I dont think it will be an issue ( will double check though ) :thumbup:

Edit...Just looked at the pic again, and they will be close wont they. :confused

I noticed that but - when I looked at my bike it all depends on how far the hangers flare the cans out away from the swinger.
It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

You could shorten the can as opposed to the link pipe... they are fairly long as they stand.

That would mean getting too involved for my liking. Doing the links is the easier option, clearance allowing. Oh...and thanks :thumbup:

My link touch the bottom of the swingarm with no weight on the bike. The left side is worse.

You have the system pushed too far up onto the rear downpipe.
Slacken everything off on the front clamp and link pipes and lever the collector down a couple of mm.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
