Chain link replacement?

Post by Jamoi »

Hey up! As I've now braced my swingarm I will need to split my chain and refit to the braced swingarm.

I just wondered would I need a new link to replace the removed one? The chain is quite new, but can't seem to find any special links for sale.

Much confused!

Well you could thread the chain through before you weld it all up. Or if you have to cut it then you'll need to get a rivet link - just order one from m&p for your make of chain (possibly need to email them as it won''t be a listed part) - or search on fleaby for rivet chain link.

Thanks mate I'll try and remember what make (Tsubaki I think) and give m&p a shout.

I did think of threading it through before welding but it will be in the way for powdercoating

It's rarely simple is it!

Hmm, is the shape of the rubber ring the only difference? I think it's an o-ring, seems to ring a bell. I just looked through my purchase history on ebay but it has disappeared, been swamped by yet more vtr stuff!

I think it was this one http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.vi ... 0973869576 so I could email them and ask for a "rivet link" and attatch this ebay link.

You'll find you when you separate the chain and it plops on the floor for you to kick into a dark corner…. :) I use an angle grinder to remove the riveted head.

Yes as you can only rivet them the once.
