Grassing up drink drivers

I used to work in a garage, if someone came in drunk or high we would ring the police and give their reg plate. No qualms AT ALL.

Imagine if you knew someone was drunk, and did nothing then they mowed down your kids or your best mate? You would not be able to live with yourself.

As for the public setting the law, they are not because if they inform on someone and they are not over the limit, no action would be taken. I have no problem being stopped and tested because I will never drink and drive.

No sympathy for offenders what so ever.

In our area they have decided to clamp down on the morning after which scares me more. One hearty meal & a bottle of nice wine could kill your licence the following morning I feel there are many more dangerous drivers out there who are using potent prescribed medication that will impair their abilities far more, yet as its prescribed they can get away with it.

That's not strictly true though IMHO. A bottle of wine contains 9-12 units of alkyhool. The body processes 1 unit per hour, so assuming a 7 hour sleep after the hearty meal, that leaves you with 2-5 units in your system, which would be below the limit.

Well yeh that depends on how much one has drunk the night before and how much sleep one gets or how long before driving/riding. And then there's the fact that different people body's handle things differently along with what is naturally produced.

Good point about the prescription meds though technically if the meds impair your driving/riding then you not supposed to drive. There are so many things that could impair ones abilities it's ridiculous. Or one could just be a sh1t driver/rider which is just as bad at times.

It goes back to being responsible and making the decision as to whether or not one should drive/ride or not. There's a difference between being over the limit and being drunk. I would like to see them do it as they do in the States with a Sobriety test. A bit like what they do for drugs now.

I was under the impression circa 2-5 units and youd be considerably over the limit, I may be wrong though

yeah mac justice in this country is wrong, I once saw a programme where some smackead with 3 small wraps of gear got less of a fine than my mum when her tv licence expired by 2 months lol

I am thinking that the law deals with these things, of course I dont want to see people who are drunk driving around the streets but it is not illeagle the drive after a drink. If some people want to stand on the moral high ground, perhaps we will grass each other to the police when we break the speed limit in town or maybe for an illeagle exhaust, or maybe a tuned engine that invalidates the insureance.

I am thinking thet you did not read my post, I do not condone people that are drunk should drive! I mearly stated that it is not illegal to have drink & drive, it is in fact not a lot different to having an accident on your bike & killing an innocent party when dicing with your mate or generaly driving or riding with a total disregard for the rest of the world. I know, we dont do that do we !

I've not had anyone I know directly hurt by a drink driver, but I still think your acting like a c*nt if you do drink drive

I certainly won't get in a car or on my bike unless I'm fit to control it .
Yes we all take risks on the road we are human !
But driving a car or riding a bike when you have no control over it is just wrong .
Would you operate a chain saw after a bottle of vodka ?

It relates back to the "time and a place" with speeding, there is no right time for drinking and driving

Yet there's a time and place for speeding? Between 00:00 and 23:59, on the road I'm guessing?

Everyone will have different opinions. I don't mind it being 1 drink, but anything more and I get annoyed. After all, what if you want to go to the pub but they're all miles away? It's not the same when you're sipping an orange juice

To each their own, if they do it and something happens then they deserve all that they get, and quite possibly more depending on what that 'something' is. You may not be in control of your actions, but you were in control when you decided that necking that extra drink or 4 was a good idea

The biggest problem with things like this is that it's too easy to let emotions get in the way of evaluating things. Emotions have to be taken out of the equation to see the bigger picture.

To be totally blunt I don't see death as such a negative thing. Yes it's painful to loose loved ones, especially when it's someone else's fault. But as the saying goes, for every death there is a birth. That's what makes the world go round. It's nature!!!! If we all lived forever the roads would be so overcrowded we wouldn't get anywhere and live life sitting in traffic.

I agree Carl, we wait all our lives for death. It's got to be pretty awesome, since waiting for it is the longest thing we ever do...

In seriousness though, death is part of life, simple as. But that doesn't mean ending someone's life prematurely is an acceptable thing to do
