Hey hey.. after a bit of advice if poss. I will admit I haven't looked at the bike at all yet. Been full up with a bad chest infection the past few weeks and still bad now so haven't had enough get up and go in me to do much lately. Was hoping for a point in the right direction in readiness for when I feel up to pulling bikes apart again.
Bought another storm a few weeks back, it had been on ebay for £1200 buy now but was later relisted as a non runner for £800. Bike had developed a starting problem while ad was online and owner said he didn't have time to look at bike plus wanted a quick sale so simply knocked price down and relisted. Anyway, I now have bike which indeed does have a starting issue. I feel a bit rude really because I brought bike home and the same night had it running and was out and about on it a day later.
Starting issue is choke related, or more to point fuel I believe... Go near the choke and bike will make no effort to start at all, nothing... not even the slightest of farts down the pipes. No choke at all and she's all game although takes a little longer to start when cold but when weather warm and certainly when bike warmed up she starts on the button.
All I have to go on is what previous owner told me... bike was running/starting fine... couple days later bike wouldn't start. He had tried to start bike running battery low in process so jump started bike got her running. Charged bikes battery up refitted later in day went to start and nothing again. Seems to me trying to start the bike in the correct manner... no go... leave choke alone and as mentioned off she goes.
Any thoughts?

Re: Starting trouble
Don't use the choke, then.
Mine's the same.

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Re: Starting trouble
Mine didn't like the choke until it was running . If I pulled the choke then pushed the started it would turn over a few times then BOOM
it did that most mornings around 4am

Re: Starting trouble
I start mine by turning here over without the choke for a few seconds then slowly pull the choke out till she fires. Took some getting used to the knack but it works all the time now.
Two bikes, still only four cylinders!

Re: Starting trouble
If this was posted a Ducati forum, this would be deemed character!!
Re: Starting trouble
Mine don't like the choke either which tells me my fuelling/jetting is not quite spot on, though the bike runs bloody lovely. Going like a trooper in the cold weather we have been having. When it's really cold..freezing/frosty, I can give it a little choke while it warms up but never full choke or it cuts out.
I have my idle speed set low at 1000rpm fully warmed up and back in the Summer I could just hit the starter and it would idle at 300rpm and creep up to 1000 as it warmed up. Now It wont idle when first started so I need to hold the throttle open a bit for the first couple of minutes while it warms up. I'm not one for jumping straight on and riding. I like to let the engine warm up first. Then I can get on and thrash it.
If it runs happily with no choke then don't use the choke as Tony says.
