brake line length

Post by agentpineapple »

I think I've made a boo boo, I intend to fun my storm with a cbr954 front end once again, but this time I'm using bar risers that are 100mm rather then the previous 70mm rise, so I ordered some new hel lines for a cbr954 with plus 25mm in length, this morning I decided to mock up the front end, minus the rest of the bike and the front wheel,.
So forks, yokes, bar risers, calipers and brake m/c, once I figured out how the lines fitted, I find out they're fairly tight. :(
So here's my question, once the front end is fitted to the rest of the bike, will the added weight of bike and rider compress the forks.enough to slacken the brake lines, how much slack should there be?
Or will I have to go back to hel and order some longer lines.....
I'll try and sort some pictures out later today.

Order longer lines .
With all the weight off the forks so that the forks are at full extended you still want some slack in the lines .

Lloydie's right though, even if the lines are ok with a rider on, the first wheelie will be fine, except for landing with no brakes at the front end and brake fluid spraying everywhere.
But depending on whether they are one into two or two into two you might be able to just buy a longer first section.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
