Howdy fellers hope you all had a good crimbo and santer brought sum storm bits and bobs.
Disided to do stopper mod today have first cct out how do you know how long peace of rod has to be is there a rule of thumb or a precise measurement.
Any help gratefully received.

As long as you are at TDC, being the stopper mod it should self adjust once you release the plunger. If you were using manuals you would need to set it so that the chain slack between the 2 cam cogs measure 5-7mm

Hi Mark, This link explains how to work out what length rod is required for each CCT. There is no set length, simply because, as a cam-chain stretches as the miles go on it will need to be slightly longer than a bike with very little miles covered:-

Make sure to use tape over the locking key so it can't jump out as you knock out the roll pin, also make sure you don't drop the roll pin when knocking it out,

Thanks chris as chain stretches over time will I have to increase length of bar .

no need for that, but the spacer needs to be cut to a specific length to suit each of your cylinders.

so you turn the engine over a few times and stop on the Front or rear TDC [check the rear cam lobe position to be sure] then lock the CCT at the 1/4 or 1/2 turn out position from where they sit on the bike, measure the CCT and cut the spacer to the required length then it is done for the life of that CCT

That's correct.
ALthough the stopper could be made slightly longer to compensate for chain wear over time, the main function is not to tension the chain for you, it's to prevent the chain, in the event of spring failure, becoming slack enough to jump sprocket teeth and go out of synchronisation.
The extra chain wear length won't be enough to cause enough slack to allow the chain to jump sprocket teeth.

btw I find that generally between 10 and 11.5mm proves to be correct, but you really need to measure each time as this is not a golden rule, it's dependent upon chain, guide, etc wear.

Do not just cut an 11mm section and stick it in without measuring first.

stopper mod competed thanks tony 10mm length of bar used can wind ccts out 3/4 of a turn with key hope will be ok.
cracking day here in suffolk today had to take the old girl out all seams ok
