Fork springs replacement
Fork springs replacement
I have a Hyperpro front spring kit on the way, do I need to get anything else like seals, dust caps and so on? (It's going to be done by a garage but I like to hand them all the bits up front).

Re: Fork springs replacement
Might be worth writing down the air gap/oil quantity for each fork. Make sure they get it right.Tenesmus wrote:I have a Hyperpro front spring kit on the way, do I need to get anything else like seals, dust caps and so on? Re: Fork springs replacement
I'm sure the garage will advice you as to what is needed depending on what exactly they are doing. Fitting Hyperpro springs does not necessarily mean removing the stanchion from the fork lower and and getting to the internals and checking bushes etc. If they are digging deeper into the forks then the separation would most likely damage the oil seals when separating the two, so new fork oil seals would at least be required. Stick with genuine parts with fork seals
It may even be a good idea to have them replaced either way, at the same time, depending on condition. New dust seals is a good idea as well to go along with fork seals. With the internal bushes you wont know until things are stripped down and checked, that's if they are stripping things down that far.

The garage will do what I ask them to - so do you recommend bushes as a preventative or is it probably unnecessary? It's not even hit 15k yet.

Re: Fork springs replacement
The only thing that needs to come off when changing springs is the top cap and a couple of washers/spacers. No need to get involved with the bushes/seals. In fact, once the forks are out its a 20 min job ( if that !! ).Tenesmus wrote:The garage will do what I ask them to - so do you recommend bushes as a preventative or is it probably unnecessary? Re: Fork springs replacement
+1
But as I mentioned earlier if the fork seals are looking worse for wear then now's the time to get them done.

Re: Fork springs replacement
My forks have done 54,000 miles on the original bushes if that's any help. I think that changing the fork oil periodically must help.
Two bikes, still only four cylinders!
