Flat battery, any reccomendations?

I have one of these screwed to the wall inside my cupboard so I can keep one of my batteries tucked away on charge over the winter.

I have one of those for the TDM and an Optimiser for the VTR. They are plugged in and left on charge whenever they are in the garage (just need to add a cable to the battery with a connecting plug). They are meant to be left on constantly, not just when the battery is low.

That one should do the job fine. I use one myself, but a Datatool version. I wouldn't be without mine. In the winter when the bike is not being used a lot, I keep it connected up all the time.

I would be more worried if it didn't. It shunts excess AC voltage away in the form of heat. It should get hot, but not too hot!! Best to get a multimeter and go through the following tests if the charging system is suspect.

The one I have linked to above, I take it that it's a longer term trickle type charger then?

If so I'm assuming it's best used with the battery off the bike?

Nope you can add a connector to the battery on the bike and charge it via the trickle charger - just check that it has an auto cut off.



But first you might want to check why your battery died? How old was it? What kind of R/R is fitted? As you risk damaging a new battery if the R/R is cooking them off.

No it will charge your battery as per normal but then switch into trickle charge once fully charged. How long the charge takes depends on the state of the battery.
