if you are in a hurry and don't have time to wait for oil order you can make your own 7.5wt by mixing equal quantities of 5 and 10 wt

good tip, its on order now I can wait .
once the front end is back in im going to service the rear shock linkage is there anything thats going
to go wrong or is it straight forward enough-lol

Good to see you have your sense of humour back. Lets hope you don't have any badly seized bolts otherwise heat and big hammer may be required.

after pricing up hammerite + undercoat for Hammerite approx £20 + time and the weathers cold for spraying (would need to heat my workspace) fumes ect....
I've decided to get the fork lowers powder coated by http://www.classic-coatings.co.uk/ I took the parts to show them exactly where to coat and where not too, he quoted me £30 for the pair in matt black
Should be done by next wednesday will post some pics

Old fork lowers finished in tatty silver paint.

I was very pleased with the finish of the powdercoating he got the top edge exactly how i wanted it.


Heres the stock progressive, as you can see it appears to be made out of an old coat hanger and also needs a 100mm spacer! Its no wonder they bottom out so easily!


The hyper-pro progressive springs have a more forged look to them and are the full 410mm in length and require no spacer.


Nearly done, rebuilt with hyper-pro progressive springs new seals and hyper-pro 7.5w fork oil. My facebook friends will know I had some trouble with the damper hex bolt but it was sorted with help of a friend and an air impact wrench.

I know linier are always best racing fit but what about road???
ive never tried progressive and the standard ones don't inspire much confidence
any opinions appreciated chears

cheers wicky.im just after a bit of feed back here before I take the plunge.so I can get best possible set up.
one final question.will carls damper mods work with progressive or will they be best with the linear he used???

I sprayed them at first but it didn't hold, well, I spilt brake fluid on them I ended up getting some off some later model forks which are anodised.

I have a pr of Yacugar progressive springs (pretty much indentical to Hyperpro) for sale if your still thinking about taking the plunge, see For sale section, or PM me for details,
in a nut shell linear springs are best for racing, trackdays and v fast road riding where the roads are smooth and in good condition (prefrebly with no speed limits), think Isle of Man mountain course, but linears need to be rated to suit your weight and require more accurate setup plus they are less forgiving on rough / uneven rods. while progressives are more of a compromise, and less sensitive body weight , setup, road conditions etc and while not as precise as a well setup and matched pr of linear springs they are a massive improfement over OE, I had them fitted with the recommended 7.5wt oil, 140mm air gap and the taper suspension mods I was very pleased with the result.

I have read your article and was wondering would these mods ie drilling the 1mm hole in the cartridge and grinding the taper shoulder off the damping rod as well as using 10wt oil make any difference without changing the springs?

Carl's not been around for a while .
Why don't you want to change the springs ?
While you have the forks apart you might as well go the hole hog .
New seals,bushes,springs,oil .
Or just send them to Roger and get them done correctly by the man who came up with this mod .
