Front Sprocket Inspection
Front Sprocket Inspection
Have never even seen the front sprocket - the rear one wasn't too bad (replaced with new one, 1 tooth higher). As I've only done 300 miles since buying it, thought I'd better have a look. Is it right I have to take the clutch cover off, and do I need to pull the lever in first and tie it to the bars just to get at the front sprocket?
I'm so unlucky that if there is such a thing as re-incarnation I'll come back as me!
Re: Front Sprocket Inspection
Yup that's the way to do it to save having to rebleed the clutch.
Best to replace chain & sprockets all together. Otherwise its like changing your socks one at a time…

Yeah, that's what I figured - anyone got a good, standard front sprocket for sale?Wicky wrote:Yup that's the way to do it to save having to rebleed the clutch.

I hope you mean Sprocket cover, you don't want to be taking the clutch cover off.Mav617 wrote: Is it right I have to take the clutch cover off

Aye, but the sprocket cover means removal of the clutch slave cylinder cover also apparently.popkat wrote:I hope you mean Sprocket cover, you don't want to be taking the clutch cover off.Mav617 wrote: Is it right I have to take the clutch cover off

Re: Front Sprocket Inspection
You can remove the sprocket cover with the clutch slave still attached. You have to remove either one or two (sorry can't remember) outside bolts on the slave as they also hold the sprocket cover on. Leave the others in on the slave and remove the sprocket cover with slave still attached.Aye, but the sprocket cover means removal of the clutch slave cylinder cover also apparently.

Loosen the front sprocket bolt before removing the rear wheel or cutting the old chain off

Re: Front Sprocket Inspection

Leave this one dun up as it holds the slave to the cover all the others hold the cover to the engine
Re: Front Sprocket Inspection
I left the clutch lever well alone & just cable tied the slave cylinder piston

Re: Front Sprocket Inspection
I drain it tbh as it can do with a change once in a while and it don't take long to bleed it
Re: Front Sprocket Inspection
Oh well done Lloyd I was having a moment there.Leave this one dun up as it holds the slave to the cover all the others hold the cover to the engine

I cable tie the clutch lever in.
