Swingarm Collar

Post by carmanbikes »

Hello, On the rear swinging arm I am replacing the bearings but can`t work out where part number 52142-MBB-000 goes there are 2 of them, One fits on the outside of the right hand side of the arm but not sure if the other fits on the inside of the left or right, I have checked this on the fiche but its not very clear, Thanks in advance :?

The collars/spacers are different on each side and don't match each other. One side IIRC the left side is longer, So don't try and compare both sides of the Swingarm.

Carl's memory is right, the spacers are different for the left and righthand side of the swingarm. The reason being you have different types of bearings on each side of the swingarm.
Just remember you have to have a continuation of spacers and collars right through the swingarm so that once you have tightened up the swingarm spindle, the swingarm move up and down freely, not locked up.

This pic should answer your question,

I might whip my swingarm off tomorrow night, if you can wait that long?

I remember pondering the same thing, but when I came to assemble all the new bearings & collars it all became obvious when I had eliminated the 'known' parts. I just can't bloomin remember!

You're missing the point

You have a needle roller bearing on the lefthand side, so the long collar fits inside the bearing. On the righthand side you have ball bearing type bearings, so the collars fit against the inner race of the bearings, meaning both of the short collars fit on the righthand side of the swingarm.

One short collar goes each side of the bearings on the righthand side pivot point of the swingarm. I have marked the righthand side with a red arrow just to avoid any confusion, and for future reference.
