Front wheel dust seals

Post by Mav617 »

Planning on replacing these tomorrow - easy enough? I assume (assumption being the mother of all wombles-ups in my case) that a screwdriver behind it, a little tap around and it should just lift out?
I'm so unlucky that if there is such a thing as re-incarnation I'll come back as me!

Exactly that.
Just lever them out.

The bearings are a little trickier, though.
Lever the middle spacer tube to one side and drift one side out, then the other, but notice that the centre tube will only go out from one side.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Yeh that can be a bi...atch. If the spacer does not move to the side easily then try flipping the wheel over and doing it from the other side as one side moves more than the other. Put the new bearing in the freezer overnight as they will shrink slightly making it easier to knock them into place. Find an old socket the same circumference as the bearing and use that and a hammer to knock the new bearings into place. Oh don't forget to put the spacer back before putting the new bearing in.

Good tip on turning the wheel over, like you say Carl those front wheel bearings are usually more difficult to get out than the rear ones.

If you did forget the spacer you wouldn't be the first :) No it wasn't me.

Thanks all, front back together and in now. Steve6088 popped over to pick up a rear shock I had spare, sure he can vouch for how cramped my garage is!
