fuel cap bolts sizes

Post by agentpineapple »

i'm having a bit of a disagreement with pro bolt over the size of the bolts in the fuel cap, here's what I measured mine as.
4 x m6 x 6.5mm
3 x m4 x 20mm
if checked the ron ayers website, but they only show the 4 x 20mm, a mistake by the ron ayer's website.
pro bolt believe it to be
4 x m5 x 6.5mm
3 x m4 x 20mm
could anyone double check with there fuel cap please.

cheer mr marquez
but mine are different, mine are from a later model 19ltr tank, not sure that makes any difference.
the longer bolts fit fine and are m4's
but the thread width on the smaller bolts are much bigger, according to a little bolt size indicator that I have, it says they're a m6, you can see by eye that they're bigger.

I have a 16l tank (only one offered in the US... dang it)

So the fastener size difference is due to the 19l vs 16l difference , or a model change along the way (Mine being built June 1997, many changes could have happened along the years as supplies / suppliers come and go.)

Clearly you have two different diameter fasteners for your tank..

clearly a different size, very odd, as I say the only thing must be that they changed when they updated the tank size...
i'll contact pro bolt.
whats also odd si that pro bolt admit they should have sent 3 x m4 and 4 x m5, but according to my measurements, the 4 x should be m6. my head hurts :(

16l tank on mine. Your m6 bolts have standard Allen key head. The m4 with the same size Allen key are non standard. What type of finish are you after. I can check with suppliers I know
