Which type, and how much, new or used, etc?
And which area, as if local, people will want to pick them up.

Pictures might help.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

it might of been £80 in total but i assumed it was each! The guy who quoted that was 'Macclesfield Motorcycles' i was on a ride out so just popped in to ask! seemed a nice enough guy who seemed to know his stuff! said he had done them on a storm before but not in a few years...spoke to my uncle tonight and he says he will happily supervise and teach me (hes a trained mechanic back in the day) and still has project bikes and i trust him! and all i have to pay is for the tensioners and teach him a bit about his computer!

:lol: :lol: That seems like a fair swap to me Dan.

I would take your Uncle up on the offer if I was you. Not only will you save some money now, but more importantly with what you learn, will save you a lot more money over the years.

Make sure he has a read through the guide on here and don't follow a Haynes manual as the Haynes can be misleading.

Hi fellas,

Did the CCTs today. it all seemed to go well and everything seemed fine (i followed the instructions with the tensioners so you dont remove the front cover) however me and my Uncle followed it exactly and it seemed fine.

Rebuilt the bike and started it up and it started up fine and revved cleanly for around 2 minutes and then wouldnt idle or rev and sounded poorly/only on one cylinder :/

The plugs were usable so we reused them but they could of fallen apart after re installation. or has the front camchain dropped a tooth?

any info as to the problem would be appreciated :) im taking apart it again tomorrow to check the front cam positioning...

when i say it wouldnt rev it was unreluctant to rev. it would but would not rev properly or cleanly and backfired alot! and sounded as if it was only running on one cyl or just poorly as both exhausts were still getting hot

It won't be that.
If it ran for two minutes the timing will be fine. If I had to take a guess I'd say you either forgot to turn the fuel back on, pinched a hose or had the vacuum pipe on the wrong connector.

I checked fuel lines and hoses on tank along with the fuel tap and it all seemed ok :)
I really appreciate the help :)

any other ideas?

Whatabout the choke cables.
Are they seated correctly at the carb end?
That would make the bike run like poo once it's warmed up

Also, recheck your vacuum hose at the tank end. You could have a damaged vacuum diaphragm. It would be very coincidental but that would also give you the same symptom.
Take a fuel hose off or open the carb drain screws if you have a bit of pipe and see if the fuel will fill a pint bottle. If it doesn't I suspect the vacuum diaphragm .

Only other thing I can think of at the moment it have you got a lot of dirt in the tank and tipping it up shook it about and blocked the fuel filter. If that's the case you might see some muck in the fuel you drained out the carbs too

Thanks for the help guys managed to fix it this morning. I had checked the placement on all the tank pipes but the vacuum pipe was a bit gunky and once removed wiped and put back in place and fastened on properly its running right as rain!

I can now stop worrying about CCTs!

i just bought a set of APE CCT's and im deciding weather i'm gonna do it myself or take it to a mechanic. ive learned alot working on my storm with the suspension, front end swap, electrical, etc... but the most ive ever dove into the engine was replacing my flywheel.

is it something i should take on myself if i dont have much expierience with the engine aspect? im putting in the CCT's to protect my beautiful bike and i dont wanna destroy it by doing it myself and screwing it up. what do you guys think?

i also dont wanna pay to have a shop do it but i dont wanna open her up and be in over my head.

Just follow the in-depth guide for installing MCCTs in the workshop knwoledgebase section, study and familiarise yourself with the steps beforehand and make sure you've got the necessary tools and an afternoon free. The money you save by DIY you can spend on a couple or three tankfuls of petrol, beer or whatever vice you indulge in. plus you'll have afterglow of self-satisfaction from wielding your own spanners. Any questions before or during installation then somebody will be on hand to answer.

PS It's also a good opportunity to add a front vacuum takeoff plug and tubing into the front cylinder for easy access for carb balancing.

The most iv ever done was a clutch and oil return valve on my old XT in terms of engine work (done work on carbs, suspension, brakes etc) and with my uncle who was just as in the dark as me, we followed the instructions and managed it without removing the front cam cover so if you feel confident enough to try it then go for it! if you are a little wary then maybe ask someone close by on this forum if they would be kind enough to help out/supervise?

I can fly out at short notice - just for my expenses ;-) A bit closer to home for Jscobey is 8541Hawk @Lake View Terrace,Ca who is only 40 minutes/ 40 miles away.

Trueeeee! He's helped me with a few things in the past. Only about a 30 minute ride. Although he is the one VTR rider I know who is an advocate of the OEM CCT's. I'm sure he more than knows how to put them in right tho.
