Well he most likely wouldn't be riding it if he went off line, could end up with a dodgy wrist.

No problems not coated with anything

At least the worst of it is done now. Just make sure you keep on top of them as they wont take long to deteriorate, especially if riding in the wet.

well been a productive day, fork rebuild (which was fun) i used 15 weight oil and measured to an air gap of 130mm gap ...so around 400ml of oil ? ? ? dunno if thats quite right but wow what a difference .... removed the rear shock to see how i could improve the sag so after realising it was a sealed unit, i found that little screw at the bottom screwed it all the way in to hard then got it back on the bike and quarter turns out till i got the right preload on the rear ..... again i was really surprised in the difference ..... i then made a spacer out of a triumph bar end for the top shock mount to jack the back up by six mm which has worked a trick for looks and comfort on the new knees of mine then full caliper strip with new seals and pads ! and finished off with a oil and filter change and a carb balence so all good fun !!! time for a brew i reckon !

Today I upped the preload on the rear shock as I had it set to soft and it wasn't returning fast enough then set the damper on the 4th click feels much better .
Just need to strip the forks and refill with heavier oil as they return to fast even on max turns in

lloydie i have my rear shock on the last notch and it makes the rear end of my vtr look bloody sexy and since useing 15 weight oil it has brought the front up beautifully so no mre sliding into the tank ... well worth doing

I have a wp rear shock and blade forks and at 18 stone the settings for mine won't be the same for yours .

Tank off, pipes checked, refitted and she fired up! Going to have a go at changing the MC banjo bolt now to try and fix the brakes.

keep at it mav, you've come so far with the bike, once you sort it and get some trouble free miles under your belt, you'll fall in love with it...

Got the front brakes sorted - took the new double banjo off and replaced it with one with a bleed nipple built in (thanks Carl for the heads-up) - bled out the m/c and the rest was easy.

As I don't usually use the back brake if at all unless I have to I machined a standard rear disk I bought from Lee to make it look pretty.. well to me anyway. I will probably fit it at some time and have a change of look.

What you think, fit it or forget it?

tony ...thinking about it bud i dont think it was the oil itself ....but the oil that came out was black and piss thin ..... so i wound all the screws in and set them once the forks where back on the bike ...... they used to sit so far down on the front end but now they sit really high with very little sag when i get on it and the rebound comes up just right ...

Robbie 15wt oil is pretty heavy, most of us are using 7.5 or 10 with uprated springs. I would worry that it will patter over rough surfaces and you wouldn't want that when leant right over.
