Powder coat preperation for wheels

I am sure it has been mentioned before but I had a quick look round and cant find it.

I am about to get some 6 spokes coated gloss back and just want to check what the best practice is for prepping the wheels.

if all those who have got good info or have learned the hard way what not to do can post up here, then we can make this a sticky and then it will be easy for others to find.

best way to mask bearing and seal surfaces
how to keep the disk mounting surface clean
coat the inside and the sealing area for tyre and valve or mask these?
coat the cushdrive area or mask?

I bead blasted mine,
made nylon inserts to sit in the bearing bores which had holes in so he could hang them when coating,
masked up the brake disc faces with masking tape,
masked the tyre bead area with masking tape again but not the valve ,
coated all the cush drive parts, they still fit but are a tighter fit than standard so worked well with the rubbers I already had.

Lastly tapped out all the holes when I got them back... to clear anything out of them.

It is meant to be high temp masking tape as normal goes all sticky and yuck in the heat. Bearings have to be out due to the heat also.

A decent place should blast them and mask properly for you with the right stuff. It is normally worth telling them exactly where you want masking as most wont bother with the disc mounts. Tbh, mine were done recently and despite me telling them, they did the disc mount face. I dont think half a mm of coating has made any difference to them fitting, there is multiple times that adjustment in the pistons moving to compensate.

I stripped mine of bearings, tyres and valves, then the powder coaters took care of shot blasting & masking.

Using a place that deals with wheels regularly is a good idea too.

I made up two plates with a length of studding through the middle; two penny washers and tighten up and you won't have to clean up the bearing faces or facing surfaces. Masking tape is ok, but heavy duty stuff as it has to stand up to the bead blaster, if you're having them blasted, which I always do.
I suppose that vapour blasting might do, but beads sort of smooth out the little edges and imperfections; once the plastic coat is on they don't show at all.
