When you go to tax it just fill out a normal tax application form (available from yr local post office! ) and tax as normal, you may need to go to your local dvla office to do that as I did. took 5 min

I think you may need to apply for a new type V5, (I assume yours will be the old type). If you have the new or can get hold of one then you should be able tax it online or by phone using the vehicle no on the new reg document. Let me know how you get on because I'm going to have the same problem when I need to tax an old classic car I have, even though it's tax exempt (pre '72) the paper work will still need to be updated and it's on a very old type of V5 so I'd be interested in how you get on.

im not even sure sorn existed 10 years ago?

if it was registered to you and they were after you for money or to scrap the bike I reckon you would have heard by now?

good luck

I think all you do is make a declaration that it’s not been used and has been stored off road. There must be loads of old cars and bikes in garages and lockups still with old V5s and not on sorn, I don’t think they’d have much success perusing owners of unsorn’d cars/bikes that pre-date the sorn legislation, although I’m surprised they haven’t tried

I had a frame I bought in a job lot. Applied for a log book and got one. It then left it in the garage for a few years. I built a road legal track bike and got it insured and MOTed. Could not tax it online but got it done at the post office.

However, i did get a sh1t'O'gram to tell me it had not been sorn or taxed and it is illegal to ....blah blah blah ..... etc.

Mine had been off road before the sorn existed. However, i applied for new log book about 3 years ago so i was expecting to get a sorn request then but it never happened

I think they have stopped sending SORN reminders now and rely on the owner to remember to SORN a vehicle. Cut backs!!! Also for those that do forget, it conveniently means more fines if they where to do so.

On paper you could receive a fine and/or have taxed backdated, but in reality I don't think it happens, and is more scare tactics. Can you imagine how many vehicles are on and off the road there are. It would be a nightmare for the them to chase everyone down even with the help of computers as the data on computers is only as accurate as the person that imputed it.

There was talk not so long ago about them changing the SORN rules for bikes. SORN once, so no reason to repeat every year, and then notify them when coming off SORN. I don't know if that's come into play yet.

It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.
