Engine rattle noise when hot

Post by jimmyjaffa »

Hi all, just after a bit of your knowledge please. I bought a bike on Saturday test rode it all was ok. Got it home and went for about a 5 mile ride, when a rattle noise appeared. It seems to be coming from the left rear of the engine around the CCT area. When it cools down the noise quietens off. I have took a video of the bike hopefully you can hear it.

Many thanks, Jim.

Nothing sounds abnormal to me there, though it's is best to take some preventive measures with the CCTs for peace of mind. These bikes do make some noises compared to IIL4's and is something you get used to. The noise your hearing could just be where the slack is being taken up by the tensioner as chain spins around or even a bit of slide bounce in the carbs. I don't think there is anything to be concerned about at this stage but keep an ear out for it in case it gets worse.

Could also be a very slight blow in the exhaust maybe? Would explain why its worse when hot and gone when cold.....just a thought.

Hi , it's defiantly a mechanical rattle like the cam chain dragging against something. At a bit of a loss, my exhaust is blowing at the joint but it's not that. will be keeping an eye on it over the next few days.

Fix the exhaust leak, as at speed the escaping pulses can sound 'mechanical'.
It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

Pull the clutch in and listen for the noise going away.
All I could hear on the vid was a normal clutch rattle.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

I'd forgot about that. I read about the clutch rattle when doing me research. My butt was just twitching with only just buying the thing and all. As I say it only comes on when I've been out on it for a bit. Probably just down to components expanding. Will keep eye on it and see. Manual CCT's at the end of the month.
