IanPowell wrote:Hi guys, thanks for the advice. I'm not one to rush into things without knowing exactly what im doing, hence the question. I have read the step by step guide a number of times but it does assume that you know what to do with the key in order to lock it, and sorry, but its not obvious to me from the guide (it simply says lock it off). I think it could help slightly less experienced members to be more explicit ( maybe producing a dummies guide to the stopper mod :D ). I absolutely understand the importance of the timing and I have no problem with that (the guide is very clear).. my question was not relating to that just the finer detail of the locking off the cct.

Again, thanks for the advice. I'll let you know how i get on.
Ian, that's a relief :) I understand what you are getting at now.

The meaning behind locking the CCT off involves pushing the locking key in that bit further into the back end of the CCT. You can only do that once the key is lined up with two of the slots in the back end of the CCT. Once the key has gone into the back end of the CCT that bit further, it has dropped down into two of the mentioned slots, it can then no longer be turned by hand. You have then locked the key off, if you took you hand of the locking key it would stay exactly where you locked it off. Do you follow that now?

I'll try to put up a photo or two soon to show that, as like you say it may help others as well.

Chris.

Where are you in the country?

If near me, I charge £60 if you supply, same for the stopper mod, and I'll throw in a carb balance.

Ride in ride out, Sevenoaks, kent, near Brands Hatch.
And any money made goes to fund improvements and research
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

What exactly is the locking key needed for when removing the tensioner? :confused

If you visualise the inside of the tensioner have a plus sign cut outs, so divided into four 1/4's, therefore when the key is turned it can slot into any of these cuts out which locks the worm drive into position. The worm retracts or detracts the tensioner and spring within it.

So,I assume if the tensioner is taken out without being locked off the worm will drop out into the engine?

No, the CCT won't fall part it if you don't lock it, it will just go to full extension

So,if it is being removed why the need to lock it in the first place? :confused

You need to lock kit to take the measurements for the stopper mod... Also it will provide a guide length for manual CCTs
