Post by poshman »

Im going to have a look at a firestorm on saturday and was wondering what i should look out for (problem wise) on the bike. sort of common faults or faliures. Its on an S plate and has done 11000 miles. Hope you guys can help. P.S ive read the topic on cct.

Really the CCT issue is about the only fairly common problem I think. Brakes benefit from braided hoses etc and if the shock and forks have been fettled then all well and good - but these are mods not faults as such. My only breakdown in 37,000mls on mine was the front CCT and it was a nightmare, so get two new ones in asap for peace of mind and change them every 10,000 mls and it should be fine

You could have a look at the reg/rec and see if it's got cooling fins, if so it's the latest update. They're the other thing that gives a problem but it's not major.

The usual things to look out for are:

- chain & sprockets
- head bearings - give those handlebars a good tug and see if there is any freeplay.
- tyres
- start it up and listen: if you suspect that the cct's are rattling, ask him when they were last changed, if ever. Also look for white smoke from the exhausts.
- check lights work
- ask if it has been raced.
- ask if there is a service history

I found this on the web:

Hope it helps!
