I know this has been asked many times
Right, as a new firestorm owner I bought this bike as a week end toy, I like how it rides, handles, looks plus I got it at a very good price. Now I know it has a reputation as a thirsty beast with a small tank but its the variation in figures I cant get my head around. Previous owner tells me its between 110 -120 miles the low fuel warning comes on (16 litre tank ) I'm thinking its closer to the 110 miles. Some of my friends are saying rubbish. it will come on at between 75 -80 miles? totally standard and rode normally. I personally cant see it being that low, anyway will be filling it up and judging for myself tomorrow after picking it up tonight. But for those of you that have a standard bike riding normally not hooning what are you averaging per tank (16 litre) before red light (expecting 10-15 miles from red light)
I know this has probably been asked to death, but I do like to hear from the horses mouth that actually knows
Ta,

Your right wrist (and head winds, road being ridden, state of tune of YOUR bike at the time, quality of gas in the bike) makes all the difference.
Normal riding I get a red light at 85-95 miles.
If I need to conserve fuel due to distance between the next gas stop available.. I can get 100-105 to the red light.
I have had it tuned lean and gone easy on the right wrist so that was getting a consistent 120 miles to red light.. But its more fun the way it is now.. so i just stop often for gas.

Re: I know this has been asked many times
It's thirsty? sh1t haven't noticed haha!
Me and my old pops drove a couple of runs last summer, one being a ~250km (give or take 10-50km) route.
He had to fill up once (22 litre Kawasaki GPZ) and was almost out of gas when we came home. I was still running on my first tank all be it on fumes
Forgot to mention that i ride a -97
Stock all the way except the pipes.. It's a carburetor, the more you wrist-slap it the more it will suck out of the tank.. Use common sense if you want more mpg

Re: I know this has been asked many times
I used to get around 70-90 till light come on, depending on how I rode them.
Re: I know this has been asked many times
I get a regular 130 untill the RLOD its a 97, my son rides a 2000 he gets a regular 100
Re: I know this has been asked many times
When I was commuting 70 mile round trip I used to get regular over 100miles between fill ups...3 trips & fill up.
Sometimes the RLOD came on sometimes not. That was a '97 16l.
These days I just fill up when ness, but now its a '03 19l...

Re: I know this has been asked many times
Mine is totally standard and I get 115 consistently before the light comes on, that's with mixed riding on rides out playing on the twistys on A roads etc and most of the time I've got cheekyads on the back
I can get as much as 125 on the motorway, I have heard of many Storm owners getting all sorts of silly figures like 75 to 85, I can only think that there's something wrong with their bike, they've had it set up a long way out from the standard setting, or getting this sort of millage on the track.
I have been out with other Storm riders and they have got far less even though we're all riding at the same pace

Re: I know this has been asked many times
It's awful around town, sometimes as little as 70 miles but on a run much better. I don't worry about it, just enjoy
Re: I know this has been asked many times
70-90 miles on my 97 Storm with everyday riding - I blame the dynojetting and K&N! Though touring at a steady rate of knots it will do 120 miles.
It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

Re: I know this has been asked many times
I did 120 miles on the last tank and no light came on .
Filled up and put 12.5l in
Think the light and working or the mori headers made it use less fuel !

Re: I know this has been asked many times
hi,i have a 97 in standard trim and get 120/130 mpg even when having a bit of fun.
I have never pushed it but understand 20/25 mls possible from light on

Re: I know this has been asked many times
I get 130 to red light n 180 to dry even when hoonin it !
Mind you that is with the 22ltr VFR tank fitted
With the standard tank 80-90 to red light every time

Re: I know this has been asked many times
Thanks guys that helps, picked her up tonight and brought her home, all I can say is WOW, I am so pleased I bought this bike, handles like a dream and go's like stink. Filled her up before bringing her home just to be safe, took just under 10 litres but had covered 85 miles since last fill up.So I'm going to be happy with that I think. Thanks for all the answers to my questions since joining the forum, its much appreciated.
