you'll know that after fixing several problems with the bike, the front cylinder was massively over fuelling for no apparent reason. Even a carb cleaning and refurbishing company couldn't find a fault. And no one here suggested this fix, which leads me to believe that either I am very stupid and just should have realised what I had done, or that no one else has ever inflicted this fault on their bike.
Anyway, I had read some advice regarding the float bowl vent tubes that pass through the side plates that hold the carbs together and sit in the gap between the carbs, loosely banded together. The advice was to allow the ends of the pipe to hang downwards...I can't remember why now but it made sense at the time. So I had pulled the rubber bands from around the pipes and pulled the pipes back through the carb mounting plates. I then ran them over the top of the plate, allowing the open ends to hang vertically in the gap between the carbs. Consequently, when the airbox was bolted down it pinched the front carb vent tube against the carb mounting plate. I guess that because the float bowl couldn't vent properly a partial vacuum was forming above the fuel in the float bowl which was holding the float up and causing the front cylinder to flood. I can't believe that I didn't figure it out before, but I just re routed the offending hoses and went for a ride and all my over fuelling symptoms have gone and the bike rides fine.
I feel a bit stupid for not realising this ages ago but thought I'd post this in case someone else has problems like this.
