Rebuild Information

Post by cnswilly »

Hi All,
I have recently been given an opportunity to buy a second vtr1000f with a blown motor. CCT failure. Now i was curious to if the bore is damaged is it sleeved or what? I am tossing up how much it will cost to do the work myself. The bike is in reasonable nick just engine failure and will cost me 700 to buy then i need to fix it or do i buy it and part it out? Some help would be much appreciated.

Head off & check for piston & bore damage.
If non, repair or replace head.
If piston or cylinder damage it will be financially cheaper to replace engine.
You can rebuild it but not a cheap job.
it's going nowhere with cct fail. A couple of hours & you will know what you are looking at :D

As above - Offer £500...
It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

A wrecked one is no way worth more than £500 unless it's wearing Ohlins and less than 15K miles....
If you're lucky and it's only two bent ex valves on the front pot it's only about £120 for bits, but it's two days' work the first time you do it.
You can buy a runner for a grand :D
Unless it's something special walk away.....
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Im In Australia so its hard to come by these bikes. Thanks for the info i will have to ask if it has damage to the bore. If not then i think it could be worth it. Mine has cracked fairings and stiff so was thinking i could use some parts off this one to help pretty mine up. But all great info here. You guys Rock!

The only way to know for sure is if the head has been removed.
