I change my oil/filter about every 4000 miles and never had to top up inbetween.

Re: Oil Consumption
The oil we use in our engines isn't multigrade, so its no use, i do order about 500,000 litres a year!
missing the noise, not the vibes. However never say never!
Re: Oil Consumption
Every 1000 for me, a bit overkill I suppose but its only a gallon of oil and a filter, not exactly a fortune and less than an enginelumpyv wrote:I change my oil/filter about every 4000 miles and never had to top up inbetween.

Re: Oil Consumption
Q8 recommendation page search Q8 T520 oil for our bikes, this is type of oil Ken is talking about. Go to this page http://www.q8oils.com/EN/Mainnavigation ... ation.aspx. There are more available in Europe from various brands. For instance Shell Rimula, don´t remember which one.cybercarl wrote:Oil is oil pretty much, comes from the same place at the end of the day, then obviously refined into different viscosities. I think the the problems start when they start to add different additives for various uses in different types of vehicles.
Interesting the use of diesel oil. I would love to find a car oil that works well in our bikes if only to be able to buy 5l instead of 4l and not get so ripped off.

Problem with these oils is load from contact between gear wheels. Moto oil has additives which handle it better. Theoretically ... :-) I rather choose cheap oil with JASO MA.

Re: Oil Consumption
Also remember it must have passed JASO, "meets" isn't good enough. I don't buy cheap oil.

Re: Oil Consumption
It is impossible for me determine which oil is good or bad, and I don´t like spend too much money on this, so I use cheap oil from brands I trust. In fact I run the same oil for years.
Not to hijack this thread completely, oil consumption is minimal, and only after track days.

Re: Oil Consumption
if you ride these bikes hard, they will burn some oil, and I agree with carl regarding no dipstick and only a sight glass in an awkward position....

HEY YOU GUYS!!!!!!
