what have you done to your "bike" today
Re: what have you done to your "bike" today
sounds scary!!!!!!! there are times when I am glad I have a steering damper, but it was 10 times worse when the wheel had a defect... at 120 it would have spat me off!
I dropped the front end a bit extra to compensate for the reduction of weight on the front end with the flat bars, not sure it made any differences as the tendency to weave [slowly] is still there, but much better. with the steering damper on I have no problems and it lets you relax your grip more on the bars which helps you when you want to go fast

Sound the way forward (fitting a damper) .
I can let go of the bars at top speed and it tracks fine it's just when you give them a little wiggle and if you riding over uneven road surfaces I have to grip the bars hard .
With the bars in there currant position I can loses the grip on the bars over the same uneven road and it's more stable .
It might even be the wind hitting my shoulders and I'm transferring that to the bars .
Buy I do think a damper will help if not I'll have to loose some weight !!!

Packed the bike away until i move, boxed up the leathers and helmet! Its been moved to my mates farm until next Saturday. its gonna be a long week, but really looking forward to having a garage at last. Got some big plans for it, we have an eaves in the roof. so aim going to put a floor upstairs and some stairs in and fully board the roof space out. Got to get my security sorted first. ( dog flap, in the door so the dog can get in!!!)
missing the noise, not the vibes. However never say never!

a raised rear and/or shorter front tend to cause instability at speed.... been there, done that........lloydie wrote:I'll double check the front wheel but last time it was fine .
The instability is if you give the bars a wiggle at speed and it's hard to stay in the seat .
With the bars set to clip ons it has more weight on the front and this had helped a lot .

The geometry of kermit is as near as standard ,
Front wheel is true .
Think it might just be me !

This is a topic I know a bit about. I have a tremor. I can initiate a speed wobble.lloydie wrote:The geometry of kermit is as near as standard ,

The VTR is very stable stock. I can run much faster on the VTR than my old Hornet 900 or bandit 1200. This is due to lower bar position and narrower bars. I got advice from a dude in the US that set up race bikes. So if you think you are setting up wobbles try going narrower in the bars so your inputs have less effect. It sounds backwards but it works.
Seems to be working for me.....
Also if you have shimmed the back, drop it 1mm and see if that helps.

Pre load adjusters are a good way out aren't they on that vid?
Does that suggest too stiff a spring or spring and spacers to long?

Why ask... sometime you just go to do it and find out?
Re: what have you done to your "bike" today
Thats where it ended up to get the right sag for me. .95 springs but im well feed. I had only had the bike a week and had to rebuild the forks, brakes etc. So was just getting used to it.gl_s_r wrote:Pre load adjusters are a good way out aren't they on that vid?

Just got back from a rather rapid ride around the M25. I hate that Motorway, it's bloody dangerous. Whether there is a ton of traffic speeding up and then back down to 50 all the time or if there is little traffic and free-flowing, the way people use the 4 lanes is treacherous at times, especially when a few big HGV's with foreign plates are chucked in the mix.

Well to kind of stay on topic...... I have played around with chassis set up myself and have even tried some rater "extreme" set ups (Jacked up ride height, dropped forks and short wheel base....yes all at the same time....
) and never felt the need for a damper on this bike.
Yes riding style will come into play but with the head shake described I would check everything as it doesn't sound right to me..... One of those things a quick ride would sort right out but the airfare is a killer.....lol
With that, I have been out riding myself a bit lately.
This last Sun my padawan learner, Miss Grace called me up to go for a run up to Newcombs Ranch for their 75th anniversary
So the first stop was the "Church"

and then the stop at Newcombs, which had a pretty good turn out

All in all a nice day on the hill
