Knox Ricochet Back Protector

Post by budd »

For Sale Knox Ricochet Back Protector
Knox are widely accepted as one of the market leaders in bike safety protection technology, the ‘ricochet’ is a CE approved protector that gives good back coverage while remaining light and comfortable,
Image
This info is from the Knox website:
• CE 2 approved racing style spine guard.
• 8 linked plates, with honeycomb internal structure.
• The Ricochet back protector combines the best features of both "soft" and "hard" back protectors. It absorbs massive amounts of energy from an impact, comfortably exceeding the new European standard for back protectors (EN1621-2) and it can withstand repeated impacts.
• The Ricochet achieves this thanks to a unique honeycomb structure, which rebounds when impacted, while absorbing huge amounts of energy. So it acts like a cushion and an armour plate.
Also the design and construction of this armour is such that it can absorb multiple impacts rather than the ‘onetime only’ honey comb construction of some armour.

Further to this I can confirm that this protector is very comfortable to wear under 1 piece leathers and is quite thin so doesn’t feel too bulky, so for those of us who’s leathers have shrunk over the years should find it a good fit,
Also it is apparently the only back protector to meet both EU and US safety standards, at the end of the day Knox make great safety gear so you can buy with confidence.
One of the really nice features of this protector is that the shoulder straps can be either over the shoulders or crossed over the chest, this second position is perfect for securing a chest protector, Knox have really thought through all the variables here and come up with one of the best protections systems available.
One word of warning, anyone with a waist size of more than 36” may struggle to get this fastened, the waist fastening isn’t generous, even with the secondary Velcro released it’s likely a tight fit on a 36 plus waist.
This is a top quality piece of safety gear at a fraction of it's retail, if you don't have a back protector (and you really should) this is a great opportunity to buy a state of the art product at a sensible price

Condition used but in excellent overall condition with no damage or signs of wear.
Price £25 inc UK delivery

Both are adjustable on the waist and shoulder straps, the shoulder straps are pretty stretchy and have plenty of adjustment so would be a problem even over the broadest chest, re waist belt, I don’t have the Contour to hand at the moment so I’m not sure how long the waist belt is, (I’ll try to get a measurement tomorrow) but I’ve just measured the waist strap on the Ricochet and it’s 120cm long (just over 47 inch) see pic,

But unlike many back protectors the waist band on Ricochet isn’t elastic, you wrap it round your waist and tension it with the 2 side strap/tabs which are elastic, (circled in red and close up)

when these are tightened it pulls the protector into your back and supports the lower back / kidney area, it’s a very clever method of securing it in place and gives you the ability to vary the pressure on the lower back area (other brands are now adopting this system on their new CE certified products) but this system will only work as intended if the belt fits around the waist in the first place. Basically if your waist is under 110 cm it should fit (I’m allowing 10cm overlap to secure the Velcro).
I’ll have a look at the contour tomorrow to see how it compares.
