I was rummaging through a parts bin looking for something suitable to mount my oil pressure gauge securely when I came across this.
Here it is reversed.

Rear caliper pad locating spring and I know it's not in there as I had the caliper off the other day.
The question is how the fook did it get in the parts bin?
Weird scenes inside the man cave!
Could be that my 2 1/2 year old grandson picked it up and put it in the parts bin.
He likes to watch me tinker with the bikes and tries to help me.
Will refit it tonight.
I think it may have been like this since I did the braced swinger.
The back brake is shithouse as it is, I hope this helps it.

All it does is to give the pads some resistance to movement, and stop them rattling around in the caliper. That could push the piston in, meaning that when you wanted rear brake it might be that you have to pump the pedal or that there would be a degree of delay as the pads moved into place correctly.
It needs to have some resistance but not a huge amount, because the seal still has to flex slightly and "lift" the pad off the disc after you have stopped applying pressure to the pedal. So that little bit of rubber in the seal needs to move the pad back off the disc to avoid overheating the disc, causing drag and wasting energy.
Refit, but don't expect to notice a difference....

this really does need to go back in, otherwise you will find that the hardness of the steel brake pad will wear the softness of the ali caliper.

Got side tracked yesterday and left my I Pad at work.
When I got home my lovely kids had bought me a couple of bottles of my favourite tipple.
J?D single barrel select so we had a couple of drams.
No work on the bike and a sore head this morning.
Will refit tonight!

Correct, the shim was missing from the Caliper mounting bracket!
When I braced the swinger I had to use a CBR 900 Caliper bracket and I left the brake pad to caliper bracket locating shim out.
Have done about 7000 K's since I did the swinger mod and was never happy with the back brake.
It was even worse than before I braced the swinger and even then it was shite.
Hopefully there will be an improvement.
Have to ride it to find out.
