Morning all. Well, sat in the shadows of this site for MANY months now. Will I, won't I? Nope. I'll see what like the banter is, the tech info, suss it out and do me homework.

I'm not an internet hip n trendy follower who does facetube or youbook or anything like that I'm sorry to say. I don't have a photo-bin account and the only tweets I am familiar with are from my back garden on the bird-table. So, pics of me bike unfortunately won't be on here for the time-being. (altogether...awwwww)

Found the VTR1000.org website after it being recommended to me by Honda mechanic when they were testing (and confirming) my R/R was ferked.

I shall try and describe my bike here for you (in case anyone on a VTR1000 forum doesn't know what it looks like. Well, there may be one).

Erm...it's red (good start huh?), its a 1999 VTR-F on a "V" plate (1st registered 15th Jan 2000)

She's kept clean (maybe a little too clean) and it only goes up to 70mph (officer).

Stock cans removed (and kept), and now barking through Lo-Level Blue Flame EVO pipes (no baffles).
6mm shock shim.
Carbonadi clutch cover.
Goodrich braided hoses front and rear.
Not long fitted her with Bridgestone Battlax T30s (THE best tyres I've ever ridden on).
Renewed the C&S with a 530 DID Gold Chain with standard gearing sprockets from JT (16 tooth front - 41 tooth rear).
Powerbronze colour coded full hugger.
New brake pads (EBC Organic...not the sintered ones)
Fitted a Pyramid Plastics Fenda-Extenda (matt black), with has kept the shite and stones out of the engine dramatically! (Nothing worse than trying to fish out little stones from the from Spark Plug hole).
Immobiliser, Datatagged and Data-Dotted with Oxford Monster chain at the front end, Oxford MC at the rear end and ABUS Granit Extreme shackle through the discs).
Optimiser plug and 12V power point.
Sprayed the seat hump satin black. (The bike is TOO red, and this breaks it up)
Also put a white vinyl wrap "numberboard" on (ala anniversary) and complimented it with carbon strips either side.
CCTs have been replaced with standard Honda CCTs (replaced at approx. 23,000 miles - kept the old ones, nowt wrong with them).
Regulator/Rectifier died on me about 4000 miles ago (approx. 27,000 miles), so fitted a new finned one.
Standard indicators.
Stock seat.
No bling. Just plenty Autosol, Turtle Wax Extreme, Back to black, WD40 and Demon Shine.

Its ridden 365 days a year, come rain or shine (it's me only transport). Mileage wise, just tipped the 31,000 mark.

Luggage: Use a magnetic tank-bag and oxford lifetime soft panniers (as well as my trusty backpack)

You may all have noticed the use of the word "standard". If I'm honest, I never was one for tricking out my bikes. Ok, they may look good, but trying to sell them later only appeals to a limited few who are also into that kinda thing. 8O

So, I leave my bikes as is (with a few tasteful mods/changes), so I get more for it when I trade it in or sell it later.

No guarantees I'll post shed-loads on here, as all questions have been asked by those that have been before me, and all questions answered in that dept. too. (miserable bugger ain't I?)

But, despite me being an anti social miserable old git, I reckon I've done not to bad by signing up. Eh? Yes?

Replies sent on a £50 note to the usual address....

Dave.

Welcome to the other side Dave. What a fantastic intro. You will fit right in here nicely.

I haven't time to post a long reply right now so will give you a link with loads of helpful info.

You have a very well sorted bike there by the sounds of it, though I would question the CCT's :eek2 Stopper mod is in order for you me thinks.

Welcome in Dave.
Where about's in the shire are you, it's a large place. Going to be spending a lot of time around the Keith area in the next few years, so hopefully on the sunny days I'll be planning to take the dirty stead over the Mount a few times.
On a serious note- swap the CCT's. It's sometimes the ones that have just been fitted from sitting on the shelf for years that go pop first.
Apart from that I think being anti Facepoop helps being here.....
Don't hassle me
I'll get there at some time

:Beer Popcorn: Crikey, all them messages.

I feel a tear welling up. Nope. Wait. Cancel that. Thought for a minute I was softening a bit, but it turns out to be sweat from, being frustrated at this bloody internet malarkey. Don't get me wrong, I've been "doing" the net for many years now. I just use it to surf porn...erm, *coughs, sorry, I meant SKY news, eBay and bike related stuff.

Yeah, that's it.

Had many bikes before me, and was on the FJ1200 site (cos I had me one of them), and the BSAC12 site, cos, guess wot? I had me one of them too. So, in a way, I'm not new to internet forum thingy-doodahs, I just choose to not go on them unless I really feel the need. And I've been sat here reading all your ************ (*insert your own expletive here) for what seems like donkeys now, I felt yup, gotta do it.

The name Gingerbeardman is quite simple, and no prizes for guessing why I chose it. No, I'm not dyslexic.

Also, for the old Nursery Rhyme from the Gingerbread man. But I changed it to "ride, ride, as fast as you can, you can't catch me, I'm the Gingerbeard man"

Normally shouted when passing a police car, which is fun. (Trying to fit all that that on a tiny number plate is not so much fun).

Anyhoo. Back to the messages of welcome and mechanical intros. :D

Yup - had a sneaky feeling someone was gonna bring up the CCT moddy thing. And quite rightly too. It's just that I don't have anyone up here to do it, and b) I sure as hell ain't gonna tackle it - despite the comprehensive topics and photos on here about it.

For now, I guess I have to keep riding with 2 fingers covering the clutch, and wait for the CLUNK. Bad, I know. Yes, the CCT horror stories scare the willies out of me.

I dunno. Maybe one day. When the money is there, or the house can be sold to pay for a Honda Mechanic to do the work.

I reckon I could get about £75,000 for selling the house, which would MORE than enough cover the labour and VAT.

But, doing that, I'd probably get 12 months as well, as the Council would be pissed off at me.

Whos next?

Ah yes, the Taysiders. :shifty:

I'm 20 odd miles North o' Keith. In Banff. When yer up, give me plenty notice, so I can then change the locks, draw the curtains and pretend I'm not in.

Oh, and bring yer own bloody biscuits.

Don't see many VTRs up here (There's a yellow one in the town, and it's on Gumtree at the moment for a grand - http://www.gumtree.com/p/honda-motorbik ... 1082740248

I like mine, as trundling through the town in 2nd gear, it thumps that much, it sets off car alarms.

The Police (which the station is not even 100 yards away on my street) have stopped me before and asked "the next time I pass, I have to buy them blu-tack to stop everything rattling off their desks". The plod shop is an old Victorian Building, and I make their windows rattle.

But, as they have been told, I don't need baffles, as the engine is "internally baffled", and if I was to remove THAT, then it would shatter the windows instead.

He rides a Ducati when he finishes his shift on a nice night, and at 3am, you hear it being fired up - WITH NO BAFFLES! and he's a copper!

On a side note with no baffles and really deep bass cans..... the subject of filtering in Aberdeen City Centre. That's fun. WAAAAY too much fun. Quite often I filter along, and up ahead is a plod car or van. But, as long as the revs are low, I filter right up to them, and either sit beside them or in front, ready to horse onto the roundabouts.

Only ever had one copper lean out the window and shout "bit wombles loud aren't they?" - to which I shouted back, "did you hear me or see me in yer mirror first?"

He replied "we heard you", and I said that was good enough for me then "you guys have got sirens to be make people aware despite having bright decals and flashy lights - and so I have my cans, which help me get car drivers to wake up - it's a case of drive to survive". And off I went. Rebel huh? Or just massive balls. You decide.

You really need to ride up here, the plod are quite forgiving for certain things. As long as yer not an ass about it, they (though not all) take it quite well.

Right. Need a coffee after all that. Maybe with a drop of malt chucked in for good measure. And a Valium stirred round too.

NURSE! Quick! The screens........
If it ain't broken...f*ck about with it until it is.

Welcome along Sir

Great humour and gave me a good 30 mins reading material

I was going to mention, my condolences regarding the red paint you have discovered covering up all that fast black plastic, also you mention it doesn't go over 70mph? There is a de-restriction bodykit available... ;)

This is my first forum venture too, be warned, it's hard to escape!
