fuel stabilizer

Post by markbo »

thinking ahead to the winter months when i may not get out as much as i'd like:

does anyone know anything about fuel stabilizers if you're not using the bike for a while?
is it neccessary? recommended brands?
how long does petrol last in a tank? ( i've never added it to a lawn mower and they always seem ok next spring )

As Lloydie says, just drain it off. But like yourself I have had petrol sitting around for over a year in bikes before with no issues apart from maybe being lack of ocatne/weaker fuel. As long as the engine starts it soon flushes through, and then on next fill up put some good stuff in.

Personally with a running engine I would go out every couple of months and start it up for a little while to keep things ticking over. Don't forget, the battery either as this wont like to be drained totally flat.

If your thinking about a long lay up like I am a good carb clean is in order too as the old petrol will gum the carbs up .

Stop thinking negative thoughts, and get out as much as you'd like.

There's only 16 or 19 litres, why pay extra for fuel stabilizers when you can just ride it for a tankful every couple of months?

There will be nice enough riding days during the winter, even if you get out for a quick blast in the middle of the day.

I'm only in Kemsing, Duffy's in Orpington, there will always be someone out and about.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
