Idiot alert
I've managed to loose a small o-ring inside the front cyclinder. I'm hoping to get it out but I don't have a borescope, so I'm stuck with a thin bit of wire and a stunning sense of feel.
Question: if I can't get it out is it just dumb, or is it extraordinarily stupid to try and start the bike regardless. I suspect I know the answer.

Re: Idiot alert
Personally I wouldn't bother. Not much chance of fishing it out. It'll burn up or blow it out of the exhaust, at worst trap on the exhaust valve seat but would also quickly burn up. Best of luck fishing.

Re: Idiot alert
Try taping a piece of airline (small enough to go through the spark plug hole) to the end of a vacuum cleaner nozzle and fish around with that inside the cylinder.

Re: Idiot alert
Is it a rubber o-ring
Re: Idiot alert
That was my first thought
If it's rubber then leave it. If it's metal then get it out. If your fishing for it I guess it's rubber because if it was metal you would have it out by now with a magnet.

Take the sump off?
Not sure I'd want an o-ring floating about in my engine...

Re: Idiot alert
Yes. It's an o-ring off the thread of a compression tester. It was something like 6 or 8mm in diameter.carmanbikes wrote:Is it a rubber o-ring
My worry is that it'll stick to the cylinder as it burns up. Although, it is pretty hot in there.
Re: Idiot alert
To say the least. It will be about 2000°C in the combustion chamber. The rubber wont just melt...it will be obliterated.Although, it is pretty hot in there.

I would just run it and not give it a second thought.

OK then. Ten minutes of 'fishing' in the morning. If I'm lucky, great, if not then I'll fire her up.
Fingers crossed. Thanks everyone.

Re: Idiot alert
Wish it was that simple. Got a tank to finish connecting, oil cooler to attach, fluids to go in and an exhaust stud to fit first.fabiostar wrote:full choke.
hit button.
o-ring gone.
