phone package seller got told "i don't have a phone"
window sales got told "i live in a cave"
When asked how are you today i responded "not so good my hamster died today". And then just continually interrupted the sales banter with how distressed i was a the loss of the hamster. Result - they put the phone down.
Responding the calls with my best chicken impression usually does the trick too.
Various quotes from the Alexander Armstrong, Direct Line Insurance adverts usually puts them on the back foot
The kids find it most amusing and have even had a go themselves . Almost look forward the calls

Never had a telesales call, thankfully! Have been around friends though when they get a call from 'Microsoft' and people try to get you to download their shitty viruses...
I always love those ones, they don't end up happy when they realise I've made a rock of them (sorry, I only have 16-bit windows 95, will your program still work?)... they often take their time with it, I even managed to get one say the program would fix hardware errors! (What the wombles?)

I don't even answer the phone, house or mobile unless its a number I recognise. If I do happen to answer the phone and it's cold calling they either get an F off or some other form of abuse and I hang up or CBA and hang up.

depends if im bored or not . I say I charge 800 dollars an hour to answer to answer questions and ask for their address to send an invoice . they normally hang up by then but they always ring back the next day ??

I generally ask what their home number is and what time they finish work and say I'll ring them back on their time, usually they take the hint.
I'm so unlucky that if there is such a thing as re-incarnation I'll come back as me!
