Mangled thread

Post by TravisZack »

Ok, you can all see the problem here. What's my best course of action?

Lots of good thread either side of the chewed up part.

The channels were needed for removing the bolt...

Find someone with a big enough Tap to re-cut the thread.

Or buy the frame I have sitting in the MacCave...

Frame to engine mount.
They aren't critical, re tap it and carry on.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Where are you Travis... I think I have a tap you could borrow and return when you've done it?
Why ask... sometime you just go to do it and find out?

Sorry guys I somehow managed to totally miss all these replies :?:

Thanks for the offer gl_s_r, I'm up in Macclesfield so could have been a postal job, but I've already gone and ordered one online now, should be here tomorrow.

tony.mon is right about where it is, and I figured the same so should be all good. Having trouble getting the swingarm bearings out now but hey ho!

When you assemble it use plenty of copperslip or antiseize grease.

and when you re tap the thread use some grease that will help collect the swarf, then thoroughly clean with brake cleanser etc make sure theres no swarf in there when replacing the bolt.
