Whats your biggest work related fookup?

Post by Richy85 »

5 o'clock last thing Friday bullsh1t.

Ironically, it was the stupid 'safety' feature that made this happen.
Was over the lorry about to tip and the load alarm came on which locks the wombles hydraulics. If I could have tipped then there would have been no issue. So I had to back up which made the weight transfer shift and it started to go. My only concern was not hitting the lorry. managed to get far enough back to miss it 8-)
Mission accomplished.

Might put this on farm wombles

Didnt really have much time to be scared. My only thought was NOT THE wombles LORRY.

then next thing I knew I was splattered on the windscreen.

There was a bit of a strange odour in the cab afterwards though.

when I was 18 I worked for Dagenham motors, the main ford dealer east of London, I managed to rip a door off of a fiesta and destroy a roof on a new escort, all in the space of 7 days, I was then told that any further accidents would have to be paid for by myself, it was then I decided to leave....
(in my defence I have valid excuses for both accidents  )
I have no excuse for ragging the tits of a 200bhp escort turbo tho, up and down the A13.... :biggrin
HEY YOU GUYS!!!!!!

My biggest one would be a rock falling through the windscreen of a truck I tilted the cab on, no my fault as it was hidden under the passenger chair, and it needed a new screen anyway.

The new apprentice on the other hand decided to start a truck and let it run with no engine oil in it (doh!) But it's ok. It's only a total of 35k to replace it for a new one

   Fantastic pics those Richy

Years ago I was painting a toilet room in my mothers friends house. It was a very confined space, literally just the toilet and little hand basin in there so struggled with ladder access. I decided to stand on the the cistern mounted to the wall so I could reach the ceiling while cutting in. Well I say stand, I had one leg standing on the toilet basin and then put one foot and my bodyweight on the cistern. What happens next  The fooking Cistern falls off the wall, smashes the basin and floods the place

Another one when I was working in a decorators merchants. Dropped a 5l can of oil based paint from the top shelf and it went everywhere. I spent all day wiping and cleaning the mess up. I must have gone through a whole box of 12 2L bottles of white spirit and a tonne of paper rolls. Luckily enough the floor tiles in the shop literally where the kind you could lift up and wash down in the sink and we had spares, so a few got binned.

Difficult to explain this one ...but I give it a try.

An electrical wholesalers.
Cable department.
4 meter lengths of steel trunking for cable runs ect.
Come off the lorry in cradles which are forklifted off side on.
In the warehouse we stacked them up 4 high but end on. So you had to pick them up manoeuvre into the space & they stacked up with the feet cups locating in the tops of the lower cradles arms.

So there I am lifting this cradle on top of three others, I can see that the two cups nearest me are just a little bit not far enough in to drop on so I give a touch more forward...careful now bit more bit more...bit of resistance...clunk...

The top of the cradle had hit a 6'' pipe for the sprinkler system.

Right at a 90* bend, the joint gave way & the water started coming out.

Now with automatic sprinkler systems if the pressure drops anywhere the pumps kick in & in this case a huge diesel pump located in a shed right next to the 20,000 gallon water tank.

I'm sitting on this electric forklift when this torrent of water hits me... 8O

The fire alarms went off & general panic ensued throughout the building...

I shot up to an office & blurted out what had happened, keys were found & a posse rushed to the pump house to kill the pump.

There are two of these pumps so if one fails the other kicks in...Turned the first one off...the other one fires up...

Sorted out the shut down fail safe in the end...

By the time this had been done the Fire-brigade had turned up & the cable store were under 6'' or so of water...

Spent the rest of the day sweeping water out...

I was talking to the bloke who came to repair the pipe the next day & he said that the join that had given way was only on a 1/4 of an inch so wasn't surprised it had given way...

Some years later after I had left I bumped into someone who had been working there at the same time & he told me it had been done again...

I manage home care services for vulnerable elderly people so I ty hard not to fu as the consequences have to be explained to the coroner and press.

Most days I do ok.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

oh the list is endless, probably why I ended up behind a desk now.
wrote off a brand new transit box van full tools, oh that had a mini excavator on the back of it, still got the photos somewhere with the sun setting over Isla in the background. .
side tipped a 15t rubber duck.
ended up doing pretty much the same as the photos above with a 3cx only with a load of ductile pipes on the front forks.
rolled a bob cat.
seen some awesome stuff with excavators when I used to do rail work. many one rolled down banking or lost in bogs.

best one I've seen is a 2 month old 500t crane up to its axels on a floating road built on a 10m deep peat bog. and they wondered why we told them to take the ballast of first.
Don't hassle me
I'll get there at some time
