Best roof insulation for exhaust packing :lol:

This is going to be a cracker of a thread

Right, ran the bike on the rolling road last week & it was loud, so loud in fact I thought I had done some hearing damage

I have been noticing it getting louder & in a not nice sounding way either, too raspy & very un V twin like. The deep drone had long gone.

I ordered new clips for the job months ago, but crappy weather postponed riding & the op

Anyway, enough excuses. The dyno run has highlighted how loud it is & moved it into the top priority slot whilst I wait for eBay goodies.

Scoured the local builders merchants looking for a bargain knackered roll of Rockwool for the packing & got given 1/4 of a roll

The bike has Renegade race pipes & are held together by two 6mm nuts. So should be a doddle to do

I know a lot will say "I'll never go to heaven" using Rockwool, WTF are you thinking, my mates brothers friend bla bla didn't last 2 ticks..

But hey its free & if it doesn't work I'll be back to tell you all

Then, & only then will I go down the road to Lidl's & do it the professional way with stainless steel pan scrubbers

The roof insulation in the silencers has been in there for nearly four months now so I thought I would update.

Initially it reeked of house fire & had me checking for burning something every time I stopped

The smell did eventually "cook out" but it did take a few miles

The noise of the exhaust is still quite loud as they are straight through, but the raspiness has gone & I've got back the deep low throaty tone/drone they used to have.

It's still there after 1000+ miles of hard testing & it hasn't blown any out or increased in noise in any way

All in all if your on your butt & need a good cheap/free exhaust repair, it's a no brainer
