Clutch Cover Window with LED Lighting

Yeah, been a bit busy on this and that. Mostly not the bike I might add. Only a couple of minor changes to that since my last visit... powdercoated shock spring to match paint, stick coils and that's about it. Currently looking at Gixer 750 forks to upgrade to radial brakes.

So, thickness of the polycarbonate - couldn't tell you. But my failing memory tells me it's about 5mm. I didn't do the clutch cover myself - one of the few jobs I put out to a specialist. I used Bespoke Bits in Scotland. You can find them at http://www.bespoke-bits.co.uk.

It got sidelined The textured paint I used was a disaster and does not withstand the heat. It's peeling off the water pump so I need to use a different product there. May just use a strait non textured engine enamel. Not sure on colour yet or maybe I should polish them up I keep chopping and changing my mind and can't decide.

I shall get cracking on this come the nice weather as I want to get it finished. I'm still a little concerned about clearance and fitting of LED's so may get the cover on to begin with, see how things go and at a later date figure out the LED's I may have to come up with a similar solution as Scubadog done....though I don't like to copy things, so maybe another way.

I'm glad you enjoyed that. I know about that winkle paint but I'm not sure about using it. It designed to be heated up for the effect to work properly so ideally needs to go in an oven. OMG all this talk of thatched roofs and ovens. Next I shall be riding a cottage.

I have some of that Two pack epoxy pant I used. Come Summer I am going need to redo my swingarm as that took a nasty scratch in the crash and there's a couple of other bits I want to touch up so will do the window-clutch cover and and water pump with that too as it's good solid paint and has held up really well. Not a scratch on my forks Got more important things that need doing first like my headlight alignment fairing and bracket. New levers etc. But yes I really should get this finished. I can at least get the window done ready for the cleaners.

Hi Carl.

Just to let you know I've been running my windowed clutch cover for, I guess, three years now and it's never given me a moment's trouble. All I did was buy a spare engine cover on eBay and sent it to the guys at Bespoke Bits (up here in Scotland where I now live). It came back about 3 weeks later, fully polished and looking bang tidy. I simply replaced the main gasket and bolted it back on. Nae bother. It really was that simple and the bike's still running like a dream (now with a few new bits on it too).

Wow Scuba...good to know you still in the background watching over us I have the a spare cover here all cut out ready to go. I even have a sheet of Lexan but that needs cutting and sticking in place. I haven't done anything else to it because of the cover not being painted yet so am waiting to do that. But you know what it's like, other things get in the way of projects. I'm giving Flatline a run for his money on the longest running project

Seriously though, come Summer and I have the paint out again to do the swingarm I shall do the clutch cover as well. I got knocked off the bike just before Christmas so am still repairing crash damage which needs to take priority right now. I'm not going to bother with the textured paint it will be a two pack epoxy resin in Black.

Have you still got the Storm mate. How's it going, any more mods?

Bad news to hear you took a bang. Hopefully you'll get the bike resurrected for this year.

A couple of changes beginning of last year... a new front end consisting of Gixer750K5 USD forks and Gixer1000K4 radial calipers. Also got rid of the ugly front sprocket cover and replaced it with a highly modified Coerce billet cover. Both look good and work well, especially the new front end. Tango always handled well but now it's even better. I've even converted a couple of "no v-twins for me" mates to the pleasures of tidy VTR...

Oh, and I've black VHT painted the headers.

Looking forward to riding some of these awesome Scottish roads in the summer!
