My turn to be of help.I always imagined to be able to run so low on track they'd have a really stiff sidewall, sure I've read somewhere that the first ones were quite harsh but the 2's have better feel, will have to research a little more.
(:-})Dunlop Sportsmart 2
Dunlop’s new technologically advanced tyre for sports bikes, delivering comfort, superior handling, optimised wet and dry grip.
Dunlop has changed construction of both front and rear tyres.
The Sportsmart 2 is Dunlop’s first road tyre to use Steel Jointless Belt (JLB) casing construction along with Jointless Tread (JLT) and Multi Tread Compound Technology (MT).
The key benefits;
The JLT construction is one floating ply, replacing two breakers in the tread making it lighter and helping it give great steering response.
Being lighter than the previous Sportsmart makes the steering more responsive. Dunlop’s testing shows the Sportsmart 2 has 23% faster steering response time when compared to its predecessor.
The ‘reverse V direction’ tread pattern gives improved drainage over the Sportsmart. The new shoulder compound gives improved wet and dry grip.
The introduction of a hard centre compound enables high mileage, increased riding stability and even wear, helping maintain performance, extend tyre life and reduce vibration.
Sportsmart had NTEC technology, same as dunlop track tires, making tire stiff and stable at low pressure on track when riding hard. Sportsmart2 has not, but should be more friendly and responsive on road, and bit worse on track.popkat wrote:You can run them down to low 20's psi on track, If I get them I think I'd experiment with pressures on the road but start with 35fr 38rear and see what they're like. Ive been running the Metzler M5s on the SP all last summer. I think they are great, the harder you push them the better they get and their wet feel is one of the best I've tried so far. The New 7RR is an updated version and according to the Meztler site ,it has better handling and grip than its predecessor. So I'll be trying a new front pretty soon. I love the Dunlop grip when they are new but when they are half worn I find they can let go really quickly with out warning whilst the Meztlers are pretty predictable right down to the wear markerspopkat wrote:I haven't tried either tyre but get the feeling the Metzeler won't last as long, although can't find many reviews to say how long either are lasting.
